Heres a video from today of my Dragonus II N-Plus. What an amazing heli to fly. I am not a very good 3D pilot but this heli makes me look better than I am. The cyclic response is amazing and the heli flips so fast. Very cool. Enjoy

Hey guys,
I have been lookin at these helis since they first came out, but I used to think they were a little bit too ugly. Im startin to warm up to the unique look. I just wish that it came with the same decals that HL have pictured on the heli on the site and in the mags.

This would be my setup..

-AR6100

-HS65's

-Venom 35A ESC

-ThunderPower Xtreme 3s 2070

-Stock motor

-Vblades

-GY401

-Battery mount mod and gyro mount mod

Got my kit today. I got a great deal from RC-machine from Ebay. The shipping was fast if a little expensive. If you figure in the price of what I got in the combo kit with the total with shipping than I still got a great deal. At least I thought untill the kit arrived. No landing gear. Otherwise everything else was there. I ordered up an extra set from Hobby Lobby and contacted the seller. I hope he sends me a set as he has a great repatation on ebay so far. I guess after stuffing all of that stuff in the small box what can you expect. At least if he does not make good on the gear I paid by credit card and not paypal and I can at least use that as leverage if he does not come through. I started the build and all I can say is great material. I have never seen better fitting ball links on a micro heli. I have everything to make this thing fly but the landing gear. I would think that my Hobby Lobby order will get here fairly quickly. I will keep everyone posted on how everything comes out. I think I will run the stock servo's that he sent with the kit untill my new JR flight pack comes (JRPF300H) a great set of digital servo's for micro heli's.

Caution or the Earth will Swallow you Up!

30+ Flight update

So it's now been about 4 months since I started this review and I've now had the chance to put between 30-40 flights on the heli. Today I performed the first real maintenance on the heli since I got it and here's what I did and why.

I've started to notice some vibration in the heli. Very minor but decided that it was time to replace the main shaft, spindle, O-Rings, and due to some clicking in the one way bearing I replaced that as well. I tore down the heli and cleaned every aluminum part with some 100% pure silicon oil. I also used the same silicon oil to lube up the belt.

That's it. Total process took maybe 30 minutes. I am starting to notice a tiny amount of slop forming in the plastic swashplate. There is also a tiny amount of slop forming in the tail at the pivot location for the pushrod. The heli is holding up extremely well for being plastic parts. I've been pushing this heli as hard as I can every flight and it just keeps going. I couldn't believe that was the only maintinence that it needed. The heli just keeps going without requiring much to do to keep it that way.

As far as upgrades that I have done, there are not many. I now have a CNC center hub because I personally don't like that part to be plastic on any heli I have. Luckily that was a pretty cheap upgrade. Then the only other thing I've done is bought a Futaba 401 gyro for the tail. The Art-Tech gyro really can not handle this heli so a 401 was bought for it. I've tried the Art-Tech in 2 other helis now and I've since replaced it with something different in both. It's really not a very good gyro.

So there it is. The 4 month or so update since I started this. Extremely happy with the heli

The dragonus becomes an Airwolf

So my wife surprised me with a Fusuno Airwolf fuse for my birthday. For lack of a better heli to install it on I've decided to install it on the Dragonus. I just finished the test fit and it looks like the FUSUNO airwolf fuse is going to fit the dragonus no problem. The holes line up with the landing skid mounts and the heli fits very nicely inside the fuse. It's a little tight around the servo area but everything else is clear. Now to start the build. Will take pictures of it as I go.

Here the dragonus is ready for the test fit. Took off the landing skids, head, and the main gear so I could get at the screws for the skids.

A look at the inside of the fuse

The dragonus sitting inside lined up with the mounting holes. It's not mounted yet. Just a test fit. The tail protrudes out just a tiny bit. It's a perfect fit

The front of the canopy installed. I can still use my angled battery mount. Tons of room.

And a look from the side.

Here's some video of the dragonus with the airwolf frame and retracts

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=754359

The video quality sucks. My garage is quite dark but it shows it flies. Flight time was down about a minute from what it was. Final weight came in at 36 ounces. The heli was 27.5 ounces before the body and retracts.

Overall Impressions:
The quality of the kit varies. The fuse itself is well molded but there were stress cracks here and there which detract from the looks up close. I also had one of the mounts for the canopy fall off as I was inspecting the kit. All of this might have been from shipping as the box was really beat up when I got it.

The machining of the aluminum parts as a whole was pretty bad. The EZ-Connectors had burs all through them and needed a lot of cleaning before use. One of the collars with a grub screw for holding the wheels on split in 3 as I was installing it. The wheels themselves required resizing to fit on the rods. I also had to drill out the servo mount for the retract servo. I used the standard HS-75 retract servo which is even listed in the instructions. I don't know if they ever got the one working that was shown in the instructions but there were several problems with them. First the retract servo has to be screwed into the outside otherwise the rod is not lined up with all 3 ez-connectors.

Installation on the Dragonus is pretty easy. Only a few small mods are needed. The tail setup must be grinded down a bit so the pitch slider can fit. Also the top front of the canopy must be sanded a bit to clear the anti-rotation bracket. I was also only able to secure 3 of the 4 body mounting screws. The back-left mount is obscured by the pitch servo and you simply can't get to it to install the screw. I managed to get it in the other 3 though so I'm not that conserned.

So far the build took about 4 hours put in and it's working out pretty good.

Working on getting pictures of it all finished. Camera has been on the fritz and needs a new battery. Gosh those things are expensive.

Head programming?

Just curious... Everything talks about the head being "programmable", you even make mention of using various holes on the mixing arms... I've looked the manual up and down and can't find ANY mention to which settings are which... Where do you find this info?!?!?

Here's the programming for the head.

For 3D Flying (Advanced) set the linkages to A2 + B2 + C2
(highest pitch changes and faster cyclic reponses)

For F3C Flying set it to A2 + B2 + C1
(Milder pitch reponses)

For Normal Hovering (Beginners) set it to A1 + B1 + C1
(smallers pitch changes and save servo energy)

One thing to note, on the NPlus kit there is an extra hole on the flybar rocker. I believe this allows you to go one step father in taming the head down.

Which is an older kit, the II-N-Plus or the Elite? I think the Elite has mostly metal parts for the head assembly. Right? Would that make the elite better?

Why isn't there a thread for the dragonus?

There are currently 3 versions of the Dragonus.

1. Dragonus II N-Plus (SA) - Bottom of the line version. aluminum frames, plastic head and tail, aluminum boom, wood blades

2. Dragonus II ELITE - Middle of the line version. SSG Carbon mainframe, aluminum (CNC) head and tail, aluminum boom, FiberGlass Blades.

3. Dragonus II PRO - Top of the line version. CF Main frame, aluminum (CNC) head and tail, CF Boom, CF Main blades and tail blades.

All three version share the same design and parts are interchangeable between all of them. It's just about how much you wanna pay.

Thank you L0stS0ul. Sometimes I wish that there was a "MODEL GUIDE" somewhere that listed all the versions and such with dates and stars and costs and level of skill and everything! Anyway, how's your N-Plus flying? You done any upgrades? I've heard the CNC swash is pretty well needed because the nylon one is to mushy.

I've had no problems with the stock plastic swash plate. The only upgrades I've done is the CNC center hub which I think is manditory. I don't believe the center hub should be plastic on any helicopter. I've also got the CNC tail pitch slider. My plastic one was getting a little sloppy after a lot of flight time so replaced it with the cnc one. Other than that I still fly the heli on the stock components. It is now inside the airwolf fuse though so no more aerobatics.
