Looks very sharp. How do you like the flybarless setup?

Hi Cristian, I only build them,my son flies them and he loves it.I must admit that at first i was'nt sure whether it would offer much of a performance increase, certainly not enough to justify the cost. But,having watched it fly it is much more powerful than a 90SE.Added to that, the head has quite a load taken off it and there are far less links to fail! Oh, and i think it looks better!

Thanks for the feedback. I have a Revolution (90 size) that I use a CycLock on for the CCPM mixing so all I need to do is add a couple of CSM SL720 and I am good to go. All I need now is some time to fly

One more thing, how much better is the auto performance?

Hi Christian, only had a few flights so far and have'nt done autos yet but i would expect similar if not better performance.By the way, dont forget as well as adding a couple of 720's you will need to chop up the head a bit!

On my machine aerobatic autos are real good, it retains the headspeed very well, better than a flybar head.

How'd you attatch the head button? I need to do something with my R50. It doesn't looks so good with the ears just removed. Needs a button.

Flybars....

I had a flybar less machine and a buddy of mine has a 5 blade 500. You know how you add expo to make the heli less sensitive around center?? Well with out the flybar it feels like you did the opposite 100%. I tried every thing to slow the machine down and keep it from flipping over or smacking the boom on the ground while trying to take of or land. My buddy tried a second gyro on a different axis to help control the swash.

To trust no one is to trust everyone equally

Hi Yug,
Give me a little time on this one as just about every parameter you can change has been. C.S.M have been brilliant can't fault them and all the settings came from them. As I get more familiar with the system it is getting easier, I remember the first time I set up a C.S.M gyro on the tail it seemed very confusing, now it takes about 30secs. I think the best way to give you the settings would be if I print off the gyro page (both gyro's are set the same) and type it all out on here. As I said give me a little time.......

:eekid you guys reduce the amount of cyclic pitch available? Even at 7/8 degrees on the cyclic, my R50 is a lot more responsive to cyclic inputs. If you left it with full travel available, look out

Hi Autoeject,

Firstly, head button. I would like to tell you that its all down to my engineering skill but its not. All I did was cut the top off with a dremel, clean it up with a file then epoxy a head button from a Caliber 50 on the top. I know it sounds like a bodge but it works fine and looks neat! Your 50 looks good, what gyro's did you use?

Hi Autoeject,
My 90 is set up like this: Pitch +12/-12 Elevator and Aieleron are both at +7/-7 err I think, no, thats right. Look, I only build them cos I'm rubbish at flying them! By the way, those settings make it very, very quick!!!

I've got 401's on it. I'd like better but I wasn't convince this was the route I would stay with and I could always use them on a camera rig.

I was going flybarless as testing to see if it would be better for my camera heli. Intrepid gasser. I'm sold. Even with the stabilizer off, in HH I was amazed how solid the hover was on my R50. Like I parked it there.

MolokaiBoy

A flybar is just a mechanical gyro. It helps to stabilize our heli in flight. With the improvements in gyro technology, we can do better going electronic. Cyclic response is immediate and crisp. Rotor efficiency is improved. Fewer parts to wear. No ugly flybar to damage(wish I didn't know how easy that is:rolleyes. I know there's more that I'm not thinking of right now.

Hi 50feet,
I use C.S.M 720 gyro's and don't have that problem on take-off.On spool up the gyro's are in 'normal' mode which levels the swashplate. Then I switch to Heading Hold mode and take off as normal. It is very stable, you can take both hands off and it will just sit there. But touch those sticks and you had better be paying attention! The huge advantage I find with flybarless is that just by tweaking the gyro's you can make the heli as manic or as mundane as you like.

You can turn down the sensitivity by adjusting the end points on the roll and pitch channel in your transmitter. They adjust the maximum roll rate just as they do on the tail rotor since you have the gyros in the mix. Alternatively you can also use the expo function to make it more mellow. Also Colin Mill recommends that you setup +-10 degrees on the cyclic to ensure that you don't run out of forward pitch when the heli is a full forward speed. Remember the flybar adds a few degrees of pitch when at full speed that you don't normally measure on the table and you need to add them when going flybarless.

Autoeject
The GY-401 is not very suitable for a flybarless setup since the only control parameter you can set on it is gain. On the CSM gyros you can set all the various control parameters and they are very different for a flybarless application than for tail stabilization. You can read all about it in this thread: Prototype CSM Flybarless System test.....Update.
