I've been using solidworks for most of my 2d design work, is there a way i can import the sldprt file into .dxf or dwg format?

Make a (2D) drawing of a 3D part, assembly ... ,
than File-->"save as"--> Save as type = DWG

Now you have converted a Solidworks file into a dwg file. copy-paste the views to the desired dwg file

weird, i'm using solidworks 2006, and there is no save type as DWG. What version are you using?
