| Well, I put in my Trex 600 after 100+ great flights. I was up about 50 to 100 feet doing the usual routine and lost orientation for a split second. As many of you know, that was more than enough time to send the heli nose down at full speed towards the runway before I had a chance to blink. It hit hard and was over quickly
Totaled the helicopter and the LiPo. Luckily, all of my electronics survived, except the motor - just a stripped servo gearset.
The LiPo was wisping a little smoke, so instead of risking carrying it somewhere to neutralize it, we grabbed a fire extinguisher and placed the battery in the parking lot away from everything. We added a little lighter fluid to it and lit it up. After a few minutes, the first cell openned up and shot its flame - the other five quickly followed. Pretty uneventful since it was a controlled setting, but cool to see regardless.
Total damage, including the battery, is about $700. I have many of the spares on my wall - so it should be running again shortly, minus one flight pack
You can bet I will be practicing my orientations again for the next little while
Here are the pics for the sick amongst you
