Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Fury "Extreme" - that's what it's called.

I thought this might interest you on the new 80/90 sized Fury. The kit has a bit higher spec than the Expert 60.

Notable points:
Two stacked bearings in the mainshaft upper bearing block
New carbon boom which is 40% stiffer than the regular carbon boom. I have one. It really is. 32.5 inches.
Ali cooling fan
5mm blade bolts
Metal tail box with links to the blade grips from the Pro tail slider. Metal pitch plate. The pitch slider is now centered at hover pitch for equal mechanical throw both ways.

Gear ratio options are as we've all heard and now use.

Clearly, an incredibly impressive and well thought through model.

Best regards,

Ben Minor

They didn't send me a price sheet. To their credit, MA generally doesn't "run the numbers" until the model is about ready to ship. People HATE it when a price is underestimated. Overestimating can really hurt potential sales, too.

Fury Extreme

FYI - although its a rather small image, the main page of Miniature Aircrafts website now contains the Extreme. This particular model was shown at the Nurenburg Toy Fair this weekend.

I really didn't want to say anything yet, but here goes. Last week I recieved my "extreme" Fury 90 from Miniature. I placed the order for it, and a custom paint job in the beginning of December, but they were waiting on parts to come through. Dr. Ben is correct in saying that the "new" 80/90 kits will come with the "pro" tail, longer(32.5") stronger boom, and aluminum fan unit, but as far as the 2 stacked bearings in the mainshaft upper bearing block, I'm not sure of, because I'm not yet that far in the building process(too many other things to do!) I was told that Tim at Miniature decided that the "pro" tail and aluminum fan were items that the Fury should have. I don't think the machine really needs these upgrades, but they sure do make the Fury look nice I can't wait to get this machine in the air!

Please don't ask me what I paid for this. I did some work on the side for my local hobby shop owner, so he gave it to me at his cost. But, I don't think that the price is out of line for all that comes with the new kits.

The ali tail case came about as a result of Todd and Jason wearing out tail gears prematurely, presumably by flexing the plastic tail case. I doubt many pilots out there really want or need to push the model that hard, but Tim really wanted the model to spec out in a from that would stand up to even the worst that Todd and Jason could throw at it. I'd bet money that the YS 80 will run cool with a plastic fan, but opinions vary as to the potential of the 91 to run a little warm if not set up correctly. I suppose the ali fan will offer a bit of an extra margin of cooling in this regard.

The tail is a sensible combo of parts. The slider arrangement does not use the over an under plate set up form the SE and ProIK and thus saves that expense. Rather, the plastic pitch plate on the 50/60 series Furys is replaced by a metal plate. Off the metal plate the two gold BB links from the Pro tail run to the blade grips. It looked like to me from the pic that the bellcrank is plastic, though with a modified geometry. This would stand to reason, since the articulating ball from the standard tail arrangement is preserved, and metal on metal would not be desirable.

DavidH,

This is exactly why I didn't want to say anything yet. The last time I talked to Cindy at Miniature (a day or so after the kit was shipped), she told me that the kit I would receive would be a 90 kit except for the the metal tail assembly, the longer boom and the aluminum fan. When the kit arrived, it had the metal "pro" tail (tail gearbox housing #0861-5, bellcrank support #0861-6, aluminum pitch slider #0859-14, bellcrank #0859-6, a carbon fiber 32.5" boom, the aluminum fan and the 11tooth pinion gear and side plates to accomodate the 8.18 gear ratio. I don't know why these items were included, I surely didn't expect them, but I'm not going to complain.

DavidH,

That's fine, I'm not really up to speed on what Min Air does on a day to day basis, I'm just letting you know what I was told by the company. But, if the "new" style tail is a mix between metal and plastic, I'll stick with what I already have. It seems to really improve upon the original design.

Talked with Joel today at Heliproz, he said they will definatley be more than the 60. He did not know when they are to ship and at what price. Im guessing right at $900.00

Fury

I don't think its going to have carbon frames, I think the standard kits are going to be G10, I think Tims going to build a few carbon frames kits for the people he told it was coming with carbon frames and thats it. Bobby

Carbon Frames

The kits will not come with carbon frames, but graphite frames will be available to anyone who wants to buy a set. There are over sixty sets on backorder, if they haven't been shipped already.
