Well received an email back today from protech and the upshot of it all is to send the engine back to dennis for investigation, can't argue with that so will be sending it back tomorrow.

Well thats a bummer but hopefully he ll sort this out for ya

As for me I have a replacment motor its the .12 and I have to say althoguh it looks the same it surely is not
The whole engine block is rather lighter ...:O)
I cant say how I recon the material used for the engine block is different
I ll weight it and let you know but deffinately strange looks the same says made in taiwan yet its not the same engine
Also the bore on the air inlet is much smaller ..
Just wonder how it flys

I myself will send back the broken motor because this should just not happen the Clutch seperating and the crank snapped cleanly all in a gentle hover
I ll wait to hear what Protech has to say.

I actually took the engine to my local lhs and asked a couple of thier guys what they thought, they agreed that everything seemed ok so it was very strange, the one guy did think the engine was made by a company called 'force' out in taiwan. Haven't looked to see if they have a website yet tho. Also asked them about fitting a small OS engine but the sticking point is the shaft being a car engine.

One other thing, the starter you are using has a one way bearing I presume as there isn't one on the actual engine that I can see ?

Cheers.

Yep you definitely need a one way shaft because the engine doesn't have one
And yes same problem here i found some nice engines and Bigger with same mounting dimensions BUT these are all car engine's and the shaft is therefore wrong ...

Just funny the replacement i have now (same .12 cc size) is much lighter then original and black not silver ...
MHH I ll report back once i have it flying

Running in engine sucks
So i have to putter around a tank of 2 on 15% heli Coolermaster fuel to get the engine run it
then back to 25% and lets see if this engine has any better power
i doubt it as its the same size (.12) but Its gonna be lighter a bit so I ll wait and see
One other thing i noticed
I never had glitches with my R700 RX and 3s Lipo 650mah and BEC 5v
BUT when i installed a Nitro switch to turn power on and off I have introduced glitches to my nitro bird
Not the 1st time i noticed these switches are useless
My advice NEVER use a switch they Glitch like mad

Keep us posted on how you get along, I've only got a normal 600mah nicad pack on it to start with along with a R770 synth rx so will see how it goes when I get the engine sorted.

fixxxer, why not put a prop on the motor
and try and run it in a test stand it
would be easier to start, and you can start
it at a higher throttle opening an run it in
on the stand. just put a 8x4 prop on, if it dont
start with a prop it has big problems
you can get car engines with a (standard thread
crank) so you can put up to an .18 in the zoom
just look for one without a pull start or remove
the pullstart it not hard i did it.

Thanks for that flying scrap, might give it a whirl tomorrow as a last resort before sending it back to protech. Can I ask what engine you used as a replacement ?

Cheers .

hi, i picked an engine up off e bay just
searched for .18 in cars an this turned
up. it is a cx18 looks like a vertex for
about £35 i will try it, there is some work.
removal of the pullstart and the little pin
on the back of the crank then find a back
plate that will fit.i have fitted a clutch
and fan to it but haven't fitted it in the
heli yet as my .12 is still going strong.

I wish I could say the same
I havnt found a 15 or 18 replacment
All i found are car once without the right crank so i cant fit the clutch
Thats why i just opted for the HELI.12 ic replacment
Even though its lighter ..? it apparently is the same engine

I ll let you guys how the new motor is doing this weekend

And i will send back the broken engine crank shaft
really back that it just broke like that
Surely should nowt happen

Well do I feel like a muppet ! Have got the engine sorted and it was the last thing I thought to check and only came about because of mentioning it to contact303. The one way bearing on my starter had siezed up preventing the engine from running................. another lesson learnt.

Will keep a lookout for an .18 tho as I have read it's a bit under powered & will post once I have had a few flights.

Cheers guys.

there will be a little modification required
sand a little of the stand of the servo ,reciever
sand off the ring on the crankshaft (you can see on the photo there is still 2mm ring under the cluth
and at the carbutator you need to cut the engine stop too

Excellent I see where you cut ..
So the servo needs to be inline so to say :O)
Thats all fine no worries. Only thing i didnt really see
the middle pic. I suppose your showing the 2mm washer But i cant see it really

Thanks
