What is the different between the 85:23 Ratio as to compare to 90:18 Ratio.. Original it was decided to be 85:23 now my benzin is using 90:18 ratio.. is that better than 85:23 ratio? With this 90:18 , Can I run at a higer head speed? Thanks

No, the 90, 18 will provide a slower headspeed...Its for the big 800mm blades...Its a 9.0 ratio

The 85/23 is for the 725's..Its 6.5 ratio ruffly

What do you want to do with the machine?

My original idea was using it as a 3D machine, but then since it's been changed to just for sport flying.. I think I might just as well put into a scale body later on. Would this 90/18 still be quite powerful for 3D? Thanks

Actually I was just talking to my vario dealer to clear this up, apparently he makes a mistake on the invoice, my benzin's gear ratio still 85/23 and Blades are the 725mm ( 431 ), short boom.
I should have my benzin by weekend.. can't wait..

, looks like it's going to be on 3D machine.
I imagine eventually if i wanted to put it into a fuselage I can still use the longer blades, but maybe have to tone down a bit on the head speed though, or does it matter?

Knowing how I think you are about heli's, it would matter

I think you could run the SAB755 like Gary Saia on the stock gear ratio, but you would still have to watch your boom lenght..

I would wait til you pick whatever scale project you prefer...Even if you don't run the scale heads, you would still want to run different speeds..
Such as a Hughs 500, you wouldn't have a slow speed on it, even with a two blader flybar...

The RC 230 with the right ratio can really sound good....I call it the Poor man's turbine...

BTW, I think I told you this already, keep the rpms down if you use the plastic blade holders...1500 and no higher is fine from what I have found.. No matter how much pitch you put on it, it will still try to overspeed..So you will have to limit your throttle, or put a gov on it
Vario needs to redo the stock gear ratio for that new engine, or go to longer blades...

i will hopefully have a muffler for my benzine in a couple of days. as soon as it arrives, we are blasting off!

do you have any advice on the throttle curve or end points to avoid the overspeeding?

Try to run the least amount of lenght on the servo arm and still operate the throttle...

You can introduce pitch a little quicker around 1/4 stick...I make an arc like curve so as to put more resistance on the engine before hover...

After you get hover rpms controled, just start out with a low number on your high throttle point, say around 80 % throttle, with about 14 degs top pitch...Add or subtract from there....

I sure wish I could come the Flyin there to help you, but its to much for me to go

I would recommend the governor. I bent 2 sets of blade bolts because the headspeed was too high while getting it dialed in on its first flights. I had it flying very nicely at 1500 rpms until the knucklehead turned on his TX and shot me down. My Benzin Trainer now sits in pieces on my workbench awaiting parts to repair.
