Hi, has anybody tried using a lipo in their DX7....check this site:
http://www.espritmodel.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=5561
I am thinking of trying it but I was hoping to get some advice first. One question would be, would you loose any model settings by disconnecting the battery from the transmitter for charging/or changing?
Thanks,
Jay

LiPo's are getting safer and more reliable, but there's alternatives to a LiPo tx pack that'll give equally impressive duration. When a NiCd or a NiMH or a L-ion fails, it fails. When a LiPo fails (for whatever reason) it usually comes with pirotechnics of some sort -- not good for tx's.

Jay,

I have just been looking at that very same site. I'm about to take the plunge and purchase a DX7 and a trex 450SE new V2. The New trex comes with a 3S 2100mAh battery, but I want to run the trex as a 4s setup, so I was wondering what to do with the align 3s battery... I reckon it will work a treat in the DX7.

As for removing the battery I found this in an online review: "The transmitter uses flash memory to store data settings if the NiMh pack is removed." Sorted.

Gimbalfan, good point re safety.

Doesn't the DX7 have a voltage indicator on it? Just make sure you recharge before it gets to 10v or so I guess. With such a small current draw (330mAh I believe) catastrophic failure seems unlikely - in that your voltage won't drop very quickly so it's unlikely you will suddenly find yourself working at a dangerously low voltage. As with everything though, be careful!

The batt that comes with the DX7 Xmitter lasts all day and then some.

IMO the only reason you may want to go with a Li-Ion batt for a transmitter is that you can be relatively sure the batt will not substantially self discharge charge over time. Lithiums hold charge more consistently over time than NICD or NIMH.

Im using TrueRC's TX-Packs (comes with JR/DX7 connection already installed if you select it)

Its 2500mah, I charge once every month or so.. its amazing how long it lasts.

Thanks!

Thanks for your guys' input... I'll probably stick with the stock for now...Spectrum will come out with the updated charger in a month or so...
Thanks again,
Jay

3S gives 12.6v on full charge - should be OK for the spektrum.

I finally got hold of my new 450se. In case anyone was curious, the new align Lipo (3S 2100mAh) does not quite fit in the DX7. It's about 2mm too wide along the width of the cells. I suppose I'll be selling it on the classifides unless I can find another use for it.

I thought I should come back to this in case anyone was relying on my earlier misguided post...

Why not just keep it as an extra batt for your Rex?

I decided to go with a 4S setup... But you know, it's probably worth a try. Dunno how tricky it would be to switch between 3s and 4s. Thanks for giving me the idea to mull over!

Provided you have a separate BEC to power the receiver & servos, you can use what you please. You might want to setup 2 models on your Tx to cater for different head performanse on 3S and 4S.

I bought 8 Duracell 2400 or they maybe 2600 mah NiMH cells at walmart for $15.00 in the camera section. If you are comfie with soldering make a pack from those. I have been using them now for about 6-7 months. Work great.
