Yup. The long and winding road to RC Heli Nirvana is littered with broken hearts, broken parts and empty wallets. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Broken blades, bent spindles and broke bank. My wife just recently reminded how much I spent last year on this hobby. She then said, "And that's only what I know about." Busted!

I really don't think its that expensive compared to most other man-hobbies. Sure cross-stitch is cheaper but if I think about what some of the people I know are into (cars, golf, ATVs, Jetskis, snowmobiles) its actually less expensive.

I agree that all the hobbies that I have been involved with cost money, unless you are one of those guys that just likes to be a spectator. The $1500-$1600 that I am spending right now on my new EVO 50 seems like a lot but compared to my other hobby, Streetrodding, it is dirt cheap. To put it in perspective the GRILL alone in my 1933 Ford 3 Window coupe cost me $1500.00. I guarantee that the EVO will be loads more fun than the grill though.

This is nothing but a drop in the hat compared to other interests. A good friend of mine has a 50' motor yacht, during the summer months they practically live on it. One weekend I was out with him we had to make a stop off at the fuel dock. About 180 gallons, which is a third of its fuel capacity at I think $3.50 a gallon. And with twin turbo diesels that thing doesnt get the greatest of mileage...

I really kind of envy the guys who are content to watch ballgames and play fantasy football etc. as their hobby. They all seem to have more cash on hand than I do.

BUT I HAVE WAY MORE COOL SH!T !!!!!!!!

For a broke college student... this hobby is expensive, but it definitely gets cheaper with experience. still, would be nice not having to decide between parts and clothes or food. Usually it's between food and parts, the 6-10 day forecast usually determines the winner...

$$$

sure helis are pricey but what hobby isn't, it all depends how much fun you want to have, imagine any other hobby if you will. Golfing for example, clubs cost money, balls cost mone and don't forget green fees the better the course the more it costs.
any hobby can get expensive, just the matter how much you are willing to invest in it. Invest $50 in golfing and well its pretty hard to play an entire round with one club and no Balls........ especially if you have to walk cause you dont want to spend money on cart fees............hahaha just a little comparison here in my opinion

cross-stitch

Quote
Sure cross-stitch is cheaper

I don't know about cross-stitch, but we have knitters in our shop that drop 39.50 each for four skeins of cashmere yarn without batting an eyelash...and they'll be back the next day for silk, and genuine bone knitting needles...
