Hi all, I was just wanting to know if anyone has bought one of the new century Hummingbird Electric helis yet? I was thinking of buying the combo? Also just a general question, how do the little elec helis fly? Just looking for some input. Thanks Ripmosher

I had the priviledge of flying the hummingbird at the AMA show this past weekend. The Century reps were very nice, and offered me a try at it. The Hummingbird flew very stable for a fixed pitch helicopter, and it's construction was such that it could take a moderate crash without any damage. I was very impressed.

I've been told, by Century, that the Hummingbird is due out mid February. It was at the AMA convention and Century had a flying demo. It apparently drew a lot of attention. I saw it up close and I could see it is of much better quality than other electrics. The battery is now called the Bird Seed. Good name considering that it does feed the helicopter.

The Szabo lads had a go at it and also gave it glowing reviews! Alan, Danny care to chime in? I was told they're looking around $300 for everything. All you do is specify your crystal frequency and it's ready to go. That's nice not having to go all over tarnation for electronics and other NOT INCLUDED items.

i agree, for $320 or so you have a fully flight ready indoor heli... only competitor in its class would be the hirobo lama.

Yes the Hummingbird is great. I got to fly it too. Alan Szabo was doing demos all day Saturday. I of the guys had the heli up to the ceiling and it cam down sideways and hit the ground. The heli was not hurt at all.
They will not be out in tell the middle of the month but when they come out one is mine.

I would love to see it with a collective pitch control upgrade....

Luv My Hummingbirds

Bought a humminbird with the complete MAXX setup incl century micro piezo gyro. This thing is so awesome. Needed to tweak the gyro a lil. Balanced the main and tail rotor blades. Flys great. Very stable. Got lots of video flying it in my new shop space. Went out and bought two more before they are all gone. Gunna do one up with some goodies and save one for the (soon to be?) CP upgrade. This thing is tough(read that durable) I crashed so many times dialing it in and the only thing I could break was the main blades. Did a few mods. Mounted the hummingboard and PICO 6800 receiver in the little box on the frame. I took the lid from that box (nice thin material) and made a small square panel (same size as gyro) which I epoxied to the front "A-Frame" just in front of the motor. I also made the same panels for the servo mounts to provide a larger mounting surface. The foam servo tape provided is too thick, so I substituted some thinner foam tape. I also used different holes on the servo horns than specified in the instructions. I used the holes furthest out on the horns which aligned the linkage rods to be 90 deg vertical and centered with the main shaft and perpendicular to the swash. They were coming in on an angle in the recommended positions and creating interaction between servos.

I'll keep ya posted
