Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Thunder Tiger or OS32??

Giday all
I'm a freshy to the hobby so to speak and I recently brought a Raptor 30 with the standard TT engine. It ran great for about 30 flights but has since become unreliable - missing slightly at hover and tending to cut out after one tank of fuel. I've changed the fuel tube, tried different fuel and changing between A3 and OS 8 plugs. I've also spent a gutload of time trying to tune it.
The guy at the local shop has no time for the stock engine and has recommended I replace it with the OS 32.
Since the problems began I have also changed the pipe as I didnt like the stock one.
Should I cut my losses and ditch what is a near new TT engine.

Could the weather be affecting the motor? - its summer in Australia and its been around 30 deg C most days I'm been flying.

I have also had problems with my tt36 but who hasent, you might try putting in the shim and see if that helps if it doesnt then get an os32, which by the way i have now and send your tt36 in for warrenty repair if you can get anybody to help, since the move they have nothing but troubles, but i ramble on When they sent my tt36 back they gave me a new one it is now in my spare raptor and (knock on wood) I havent had any problems but i put the shim in it before the first drop of fuel hit it

Hey Fatman why don't you try the Sh 32 abc from modeltec rc. Greatlakes carries them. I love mine and so do others. It will make the same kind of power the os will and is only about 89 bucks or so.

Welcome.

Welcome to the forum Fatman, the more the merrier. I have only used the OS 32SXH and it has been a great engine, but I have seen a lot of negetive comments about the TT engine, I think it had a lot to do with needle valve problems and TT was shipping replacements. -----------BladeRunner.

Would suggest you send the TT36 in for warranty and then try to resell or trade it for whatever you can get for it. The OS32 is a great engine!

I'm in Australia too. My TT36H was Good too for the first few tanks and went down hill from there. I did the same things, tried changing fuels, type, percentages etc, tuned, retune and then tuned it some more with not much improvement in what I done. It was also very tight at the top end and was locking up (It was hydraulic lock either). I took it back under warranty, but they said it needed more running in, after I had run about 20 tank through it.
I was using an "OS 8" plug then decide to change it for a hotter "OS A3" plug which helped it run a little better. As it was stalling coming down from a hover and was also stalling on spooling up. I couldn't get it to run good in both situations.
I will see how it goes for now, but may get a "OS 32" if things don't improve.

Good luck in getting it exchanged if that's what you decide to do.

Hayden.

P.S. I had a TT36H in a Concept 30 as well and had no troubles with it. Used on hot and cold days, it did over heat a bit on the hotter days but as I said that's on a Concept 30 which doesn't have as good cooling system as a Raptor 30.

I have about four gallons through my OS 32SXH and it is a smooth motor. Buy one and you will not be sorry.

Thanks for all the feed back - was a great help.
I seem to have got the tuning proplems fixed at last.

Seems all I had to do was replace the motor.

I'm now the proud owner of a Os 32 that I got on Saturday.
So far have been unable to fly though as the winds doin bout 30Knots

I threw my TT36 in the trash litterally!!
I had abotu a ratio, ten minutes of dicking around with it, versus one minute of flying.

Hello all, allthough I don't post here often I do read alot. And that is partly why I am so knowledgeable after only one year in heli's. I to have heard of a lot of problems with the ACE TT36 but have yet to experience any with mine. And one of the reasons that this surprises me so much is the fact that I got mine second hand. And let me tell yah, this guy burnt the engine to a crisp. When I recieved it the entire piston head was covered in carbon dust and none of the bearings had any oil residue on them. I simply replaced the bearings and polished the piston and put the whole thing back together. That was a year ago and its still running like a charm. I must have gotten the only good running one. Because the only problems that I am having are little burps at running speed. It does bother me but not to the point where I am frantic to find a new engine. I am just waiting for the day that it takes a crap and then I will get the O.S.

And by the way. What is this shim that you all are talking about?

When a TT36 runs well, it seems to outperform the OS .32, the trick is getting it to run well. With the OS .32 you pretty much know that you are going to get a powerful reliable motor out of the box. The TT36 is sort of a gamble in a sense though. I heard that its a carb thing.

Getting the os32 and ditching the TT36 has been one of my best moves yet. I didnt realise how much trouble the TT was giving me until I changed over. Now that I dont have to fight to keep the motor running flying is even more enjoyable than ever.
I have found the os32 to be somewhat less powerful though.
