Ok, I would like to start a thread where people would interject what parts they would use to take a bone stock MA X-Cell Gasser and upgrade it to make a 3-D machine out of it.

My particular machine is from the 1995 vintage and has almost no upgrades.

Please chime in and recommend what upgrades you would run!

Thanks,

Brian,

I have a stock Xcell...the only thing I did was put the gold blade mixer arms on with the balls pointed in, and a triple bearing block...The latter is very important to me...It really helps keep the engine alignment correct when installing the engine, and holds the clutch in place good..
I also added the 33.5 boom, because I run 720's..
The WT 603 carb will help whatever engine you have..I have tried it on all the older engines, and it really smooths out , and adds power all the way around...
Thats all I do....The rest is dressing

Bill

Bill,

Please explain what's up with the balls in on the blade mixer arms. I've seen this done, but my instructions show them out. It looks like you also have to reverse the mounting of the mixer arm, and it seems like that would negate any improvement in cyclic.

Steve,

Its only needed if you plan to 3d .....It allows more total pitch. It does make a difference, even though you only end up moving the ball in 2.0 mm(guessing here) when all is done to make it work...
Yes, you have to reverse the arms, and I had to still shim the arm out, for the rods coming from the swashplate to the mixer...It will hit the flybar bearing plate...

When you increase your total pitch like this, it allows you to cut the total throw down, inorder to have clearence for the movement of the old ele arm on the mast...You really have to optimize this, so you can still have throw on your ele, without binding and produce the results you want...
I had the old 1:1 mixing arm...You could, I guess use the the double ball on the mixing block, and do like a Fury....I had these newer arms given to me, so I used them...Even doing it this way, I don't think you would get as much as using the gold arms...
You will just have to fiddle, and try it...I sure could tell a difference...Hopefully some more folks that have more time on the machine than I, can futher help you...

Bill

Thanks for the info. So I take it that the stock gearing called for (maingear 0207 whatever tooth that is and engine gear 105-66 whatever tooth that is) is fine.

Do you have the stock numbers of the gold blade mixer arms?

What main and tail blades can I run with the 31.5 inch tail boom? I think going up to the 33" boom might be more than I need.

Where is a good source for the WT 603 carb? Any local small engine repair shop?

How about installing the White flybar paddles from the Fury?

The stock gearing if fine...700mm blades and the 95mm tailblades is about it on the stock boom....I ran the 700 gamma's at 200grams
With the 95mm tailblades you will still get a little movement on the tail with fast collective changes...680's just want work with my setup, unless you do a FAI type, and use 12+degs of pitch..
You can get the WT 603 at any small engines shop that is a Walbro dealer..The part# is WT-603-1

MA0538 - PRO ADJUSTABLE BELL MIXER KIT is what you want..
Many Regards,
Bill

White paddles are very good, I highly recommend them... the Zimmerman bolt on the back muffler will do fine also..

Vetrider:

I know. I hate being unemployed. First time I have been unemployed in 20 years and my last regular paycheck is upon me. Everyone seems to be looking for workers now (unlike last month) it is just that they are only looking right now and not actually hiring.

With all this free time it really sucks. No money to repair my Gasser but at least I can get it all planned out.
