Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Interesting news on the Fury (a Gasser)

I wrote to MinAir a little while back, asked them if they thought they would be comming out with a Fury Gasser anytime. Here's the responce I got.

"Hello Ken

This is planned, but not until June.

Thank U
Tim"

Sounds interesting to me! I want one already. I have been waiting for a "new" gasser model for a year now and looks like I'm getting my wish this year!

Hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag on this, I would hate to get anyone upset over me leaking information that I got about future models.

None the less it's interesting news.

You know what a Gasser is?

DUDE!

It is a new Fury version that is made to take the Zenoah G23 gasoline powered engine. That means no glowfuel! It also means a bit more weight.

Gassers mean several things; Massive amounts of money saved in fuel costs. So much so you can pay for the machine simply based on money saved in fuel. Also easy places to get fuel, just go to the gas station, lastly easy transport, just grab your machine and radio and go fly!

The biggest problem is that all the gassers that have been on the market are older designs. 4-6 years old. This is going to be the first new design in ages. The only other new gasser on the market is the JR Venture and it's only available in Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

Putting a Gasoline engine into the Fury chassis is brilliant considering the lightweight of the Fury already it would be a blast to have.

I know I sound a bit excited about this development, it’s because I am. I have been waiting for a year for a new gas model to come out and I’m thrilled it’s going to be in the form of a Fury.

Gidday Ken,
The JR Venture here in NZ are methanol machines. The JR Voyager GS is the new gasser on the block .

There isn't one here in NZ though, but my mate is the JR Heli importer and he's been making noises about getting some in. Would be interesting to compare my Z230 to it.

WHOOPS, thanks SS, Yea that's it the Voyager GS... Yea

To many damn JR products that begin with a V (Vigor, Venture, Voyager) Hard to keep em all square. Not real original thinkers those guys As long as they don't come out with the Vasectomy! HAHA

Hope that didn't cross the line

Any word on this? I am starting to think my second heli will be a Gasser. Not sure which one. I was thinking Bergen or Xcell. I have no reason to think that a new design would be better than a Bergen since the Bergen is supposed to have great geometry.

Still rumors floating around.

Maybe it will take the new RC engine.

My guess is that it's going to be a fairly unique set up over the standard Fury. Lots of redesigning in the lower frame area.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a gasser and a glow fuel heli in terms of flight performance ?

Thx

Not good for 3D?

Wingtip I strongly disagree!

I had an Xcell gas machine and could do most 3D maneuvers no problem and the ones I couldn’t was because I could not do them not because the machine couldn’t.

Jim Robertson of Robertson Performance will make a believer out of you; his machine flew every bit as good if not better than its 60 size counterparts.

If MA comes out with a gas Vigor, it is on my list to have!

No Problem

Come to Vegas. Little Alan could do it no problem. I don't think the problem would be with the gasser doing it but more in the ability of the pilot trying it.

Xcell gasser 11.75 lbs, Fury 9.8lbs, you do the math. Mabe the new fury gasser will be less than the present 11.75 lbs, but 2 lbs is a long ways to go in a 60 size heli. That 2 lbs has to make some aerobatic difference, if not alot of difference. I can tell you this, I had the gasser 3 years ago, and converted it to glow fuel 99se, and I was amazed at the increase in performance. Personally, I like glow.

But I think people are running 2.3HP Zenoah engines. This would give a power to weight ratio of about 6lbs per HP.

The new G230RC has about 4.5HP http://www.rctek.com/dyno/zenoah_g230rc_dyno_test.html

The power to weight ratio will be below 3lbs per HP As low as 2.6lbs per HP, and certainly below 3.25 lbs per HP.

Therefore, a if you could put this new engine in a Bergen it would have more performance than a Fury Extreme OS91. No?

For comparison:

Freya with OS-91 should be 3.89 lbs/hp.

Fury with OS-91 is about 3.5 lbs/hp.

Sceadu 50 is about 4.11 lbs/hp.

Fury with OS61 is about 4.68 lbs/hp.

Bergen 3d gasser

I talked with Chris Bergen at length about their new helis on the drawing board.

He showed me his prototype 3D gasser. It uses the lightened frame style that the Bergen 3d uses, but has a G23RC in it. That heli looks like it is almost 80% engine.

The weight is much less than the original bergen gasser and with the new G23, it has some monster power. (4.5 hp)!

When the 3D gasser is available, I will have to really take a serious look at it. The best thing is having one gasser and one or more nitro's. Have cheap, convinient practice with the gasser, and wow them at the field with the nitro burner.

You must mean the G230RC which has 4.5HP. The G23RC has 2.3 HP.

oops

yep, I meant the G230RC

But, Chris was referring to a G23 with the Hanson modified cylenders.

He also added a pipe. Not a tuned pipe, but a tuned muffler.

When I asked about how much power it had in flight, he just looked at me and smiled.

I figured out that if you had 4.5HP in a 13 lb gasser you would have better power to weight than anything, including a Fury Extreme with OS-91.

Those at B'ham who saw this fly know that it has plenty of power. A pilot who flew Chris' Intrepid and my Fury with an OS91 thinks that mine has more power and vertical performance

BTW, this was on 20% nitro / 20% oil

But they were not using a G230RC 4.5HP engine. They had a G23.
