| Hi there.
Imho I'd say it's the right mix that matters:
E. g. .60-class VARIO Silence, 30 cells nicd sanyo 2000 or 2400, kontronik brushless tango motor (weighing 300 g !!) and appropriate controller, ready to fly at 4.6 kg and hovering about 10 to 12 mins, 8 to 10 at the low temperatures these days.
Which means around 20 mins of adrenaline (for the semi-beginner) with two packs and 1.2 hours of charging and maintenance in between.
And btw. no cooling probs, since motor and controller only become moderately warm (say 30 to 50 °C max, the cells maybe 60 °C max, even in summer).
This is no power e-heli, but with 5.2 kg inside a H 500 D body makes for a nice and silent scale heli with very good performance and flight-time.
After all I've read and heard about all sorts of batteries, I don't believe anyone promising up to 25 mins of 3D with some electric heli for the time being. It's a matter of mathematics calculating the power you need to keep the fan airborne for so long (e.g. for the silence about 450 to 500 watts hovering, mor than a kW if pushed to the limits), and the capacity a battery-pack must therefore have at a given voltage. Do YOU believe in magic ??
