what a NOVEL idea.... with the goofy temperature change between my cozy warm house and the frigid temps outside... screwing with the belt is becoming an issue.. not so much as the belt.. but the fact this throws off the adjustments for the tail... has anyone tried mounting the servo to the boom??? I was thinking maybe a mount thats on my sceadu would work...

Hey Jagboy
Can't you find a replacement carbon boom that would fit the Quick?
That should resolve your problems in regards to temperature variations and also minimise the tension variation on your belt.
To be fair, I don't believe that this is a "Quick" issue but more a general problem with any helie's that would use that type of system combination in these temperature variation extremes.
That's why I like the carbon boom/carbon tail drive with Uni joint combination as on 1 of my helies. These things just aren't an issue.

1... I dont want a carbon fibre tail boom.. I like the stock one..
2... This is a quick problem and any other helicopter manufactures problem if they utilize a belt and a frame mounted servo.. Belts stretch and become too tight with severe cold temps...so when you change the tension of the belt.. you'll notice a change in T/R pitch... Hence why moving the servo to the boom will allow you to still make belt tension changes without having to screw with the T/R pitch... make sense??
also... it will make removal and installation of the boom faster when removing the boom for sticking in and out of a suitcase..
what is this uni joint/drive thingy you speak of??

The uni joint is a bit like a knuckle joint that you find on your car's drive shaft.
It has at the end of your carbon drive shaft a ball with a pin 90 degrees to the shaft. The tail end and the frame end have sockets with slots in them where the pins can engage on. Mine in the X-Cell have around 10mm long slots at both ends and by pushing the shaft home all the way into the frame and then pulling it back by 5mm you then have enough expansion/contraction clearance that these are simply not an issue.
I can remove and re-install my whole tailboom assembly on the X-Cell in less then 10 minutes without breaking into a sweat.
My personal opinion is that these are a far superior drive system to any other.

I like it.. see... we all learn something new every day.. had wondered before why we aren't using a system like that... Do you know of anyone who has done this to a quick??? or possibly where could I check into buying one for my machine??
thanks again,., Jason

I am sure you could convert one Jagboy
As I don't have a Quick heli I don't know their set-up.
You would need to measure the diametre of the output shaft at the frame but your tail would stuff you up as you would have to replace the whole tail rotor system (no 90 dgree tail dear box).
Go to http://www.x-cellrchelicopters.com/ and dig into their upgrade section. You will find the drive system so you can see what I mean.
