Gday guys, great thread. Ive got a low tech question, will my DX7 be affected by sticking lead weights to the outer back case? I want to do this, and the neck strap adapter mod, so the radio feels a bit more like my venerable(but slow) 9zap. Luv the fact i can use a lipo on a receiver, ABOUT TIME! Cheers, Chris.
Ps,, Mr Beard, keep up the great work!!

Heliguychris

I did this about 6 months ago and no ill affects. It does help balance the radio much better. I did however still attach the Mike Fortune TX neck strap piece where my strap hooks up. The added weight to the radio stabilized the radio since I'm a thumb flyer. I used the Great Planes stick on weights. If you do this don't leave the radio in the sun as it may cause the dbl sided tape to loosen. I've not had this happen though. I broke the weights apart into sections of 1 oz portions (4 pieces) and placed them as high on the inside back plate as I could. Just make sure they do not come into contact with the internal components.

Something I am seeing even on the newest receivers that I do not like is the quality of the connectors that plug into the rx and the additional remote antenna. The pins and the wires into the pins are sometimes poorly done, I know this is off topic abit of the radio, but Spektrum needs to address this and make this better to avoid mishaps on peoples models... I would rather see a braided wire going into the rx directly and into the ext antenna, forget the connectors all together, solder them to boards to be done with it...

they use plugs so you can change the length

this is very important for jets and large planks.. they can put the remote receivers 36 inches away

Plus the satilites are optional on some RXs so you can choose not to use 'em at all

Yes understood, than let me clarify, ok we do need different length correct, can we change the ends somehow then so the pins are solid in there plug block?

Third vote for turning off the beep. Tends to annoy sleeping family members during late night programming.

OK, Mr Beard, I hear what you are saying so, maybe call it DX7i?
When will it be joining the impressive array of other great products on your web site and can you give us a few clues as to what special features you've included for us from our requests on this thread?

There are only 2 types of servo connectors - Futaba - And all other brands - That's Futaba's own anti-compatibility to try and detour you from buying/using any other brand products - Futaba is the only brand that does this - Futaba users support this behavior by purchasing Futaba products as-is and not demanding that they standardize their products to be compatible with other brands - It's not realistic for all other brands to accommodate Futaba's non-standard behavior - I recommend to either trim the tabs or complain to Futaba - They should accommodate you not you accommodate them.

I don't get this, I believe they should do it exactly like Futaba does, if it's not a patent issue that is, the Futaba plugs NEVER pull out of the reciever. They fit tight and right and you can't reverse them.

My wishlist in addition to everything else people have said above would be to have higher quality gimbals. And, the timer on the throttle stick is definitely a biggie for me.

"FuTabs" haven't been necessary in decades and are just a giant compatibility hassle - Down with "FuTabs"!

Now my question is if there's going to be a DX7i or a DX8/9 next & when ??

I do not have a DX7 yet. I have been looking at them but I hate to give up all of the fuctions of my current raido. I can live without the timer on the throttle stick even though it is a nice thing to have. However I find it almost impossible to give up my tail rotor DR and putting the hold switch anywhere other than top right is out of the question. I am also a bit concerned about the gov. controll. I like to be able to have different settings in different flight modes. I talked to a tech at Horizon and they did not have any answers for me. This also concerned me a bit that the tech guy that I talked to could not help and did not seem to try very hard. I was at the LHS when I called and if he could have answered my questions I was ready to buy. Because of he could not I am still flying my 9c super. The throttle cut is also very important to me. It is not a real show stopper but I have had one for so long I would miss it a lot.

Hopfully if they put out a 9 channel it will have a lot of the things talked about here.

Well most of your "issues" with the DX7 are at least partially false - The DX7 has D/R and Expo on all 3 axis but the rudder oddly does share the throttle-hold switch - The throttle-hold switch is on the top right - You do have to get creative to run multiple gov settings but it is possible and discussed on this forum - Throttle-cut is incorperated with the throttle trim - So really the only true lack is the stick timer

There is a 9 channel out now. The Jr X9303 is based off the popular XP9303 but with built in Spektrum DSM2 technology (no module). The timer is not throttle activated and there is no throttle cut. However, the throttle trim is analog and it is just as easy to slide the trim all the way down to kill the engine as it is to flip a switch. The X9303 also has Servosync which send the signals to the cyclic servos at the same time to virtually eliminate servo interaction. It also has model match which will eliminate starting your heli with the wrong model chosen. There are 2 version out now, with or without servos. Here is a pic:

Sure there's the X9303 but I'm sure Spektrum is going to come out with their own radios designed around 2.4ghz instead of retro-fitting JR 72mhz radios - I'm guessing the DX6i is the first release of these whole new Spektrum radios with a DX7i and/or DX8/9 to follow

so does this mean there will not ba a DX9 and instead just a jr9303

Paul stated:

There are no plans for a DX9 at this time.

The US version is the X9303 and the rest of the world will get the same radio but renamed as the DSX9. That's Jr marketing at their best.

Snake007,

The DX7 can do at least some of what you want right now. You can use PMIX2 to set up throttle cut using the gear switch, use AUX2 switch for gyro gain, and at least with my GV-1, I have 3 rpm settings via the flight mode switch. You should also be able to switch the tail D/R via the flight mode switch (but I'm not sure by separate switch). Here is how I have it set up:
