Flyboy, I'm sorry I missed your Portland visit. I am really looking forward to meeting you.
Could you discuss a little, flying by your monitor. What's it like? How hard is it to make the transition from looking at the screen to looking up? Is the sun glare a huge issue? What information, altitude, position, etc..., are displayed on your screen? Do you feel this is the only way to go?
Any information would be appreciated.
What is your website?

Thanks, Jim

Flying by the image on the monitor is a little difficult as you only have one axis of reference. That is it is easy to see the horizon and keep the helicopter level(my largest concern) but it is hard to keep the helicopter from either gaining forward or backwards airspeed.
It is fairly easy to take off, if once off the ground you transition into forward flight quickly.(you can see the ground clearly)
At altitude I usually put the helicopter in a hover and get it trimmed out and then switch to the visual on the monitor and "Fly the image into frame."
The system that I have works but it is hard to hover in one spot by just the visual.
I have no data on the monitor at this point, I am looking at a gps overlay and am excited about the idea.
Yes with these TFT monitors the glare is a big issue. Transitioning between the actual visual and the monitor is only hard when you go to look at the helicopter and it is not where it was when you took your eyes off of it.
See www.cyber-flyer.com he is using a system with this infromation.
I too am sorry that I didn't have the chance to meet yopu as well. It would be nice to put a face with all of these names here on the forum.
Drop me a line/post if there is anything else that I can/didn't answer.

Jeff, these boots don't have the spds on them, but I have "biker boots" that do.

Just currious? How much does your electric helicopter weigh, and how much weight are you carring, and last but not least how long does it fly with the payload on it?
I just recently purchased a electric helicopter (Humming bird) It is so much fun I have to be careful that I don't wet myself again.

"If the cars are that small imagine how small 30 size chopper might look from this distance?"

hi flyboy,

The joker is roughly 13lbs with the coolpix/mount just a bit over 1lb.
I have 2 (32 cell) packs 2400 and 2600 that give me 7 and 8 minutes respectively. I hope to get more with warmer temps though.

I'm currently in Steamboat via Jackson Hole and I'm kicking myself for not bringing the cam rig. However it is puking snow so I'm not bummed :-)

Cheers....Jeff

Can't say that I have seen it before but it looks like the Sierra's? Any chance That is lake tahoe? The cars look like they are on the right side of the road, so that rules out most of Europe?
Great picture buy the way.

Jeff Thanks for getting back to me with the details, Greatly appreciated!
It is nice to see some new pictures. I hope that you are all doing well and finding the time to fly.
Thanks again,

Isn't most of Europe on the right side of the road? England being the only one who isn't, I think Sweden was the last to change over, around 20 years ago.

My heart goes out to the friends and family and all the children who grew up with Mr Rodgers.

Looks like Waikiki.

I used to hang out in the north shore when I was younger. Did several nationals in the hills above town. (downhill) a good friend set the course so we got to prerun it days before anyone else.
A girlfrind worked at the zoo right beside where this picture was taken.
The one after that worked at "Dukes" about half way down the beach in this picture. I watched a security guard open the two wooden doors to the place with Shawn Palmers head(as they were throwing him out.) Tomes won the downhill that year. (John Tomac.) Dominated the course. A friend worked for the water company and we had all "the keys to the palace."
Lets just say I have some insight as to why they call it "Diamond Head."
Ever been up to the crater at night under a full moon?
"Mind blowing."
