Hello every one. Irwin at QWW posted, wondering if anyone would like to do a review of the New Super Learner 37 Pro. I replied. So, here it is. I thought since I have the older version,(Quick learner 30) That it would be appropriate to compare the two. I am using the same rado equiptment, servos, motor,(OS37SXH),gyro and battery in both helis to make it a fair comparison. The blades and paddles will be the same, as well as all pitch and cyclic throws. This should be alot of fun. So.........................

First, Here is the competitor. Quick Learner 30.
OS37SXH, TT pipe, Futaba 3004 servos x 4, Futaba 401 gyro w/ 9254 tail servo, Futaba 7 channel FM reciever, 3300Mah NiMH battery, Maverikk CF 550 main blades, green paddles. Stock gearing.(this will come into play later). Pitch/ collective set up it +-10, 7degrees cyclic. Belt driven tail.

When the heli arrived, I took everything out of the box and check for anything wrong. Nothing. It came very well packaged. The first thing that caught my eye was the canopy. Fibergalss. Streamline and well made.

Installation of servos. The kit came with hardware to mount these into the frames. Hex caphead screws lock nuts and plates. Perfect fit! There are also two bearings that are installed at the center of each frame side. The holes in the frames needed to be filed slightly for a good fit. They were a little too tight to get in otherwise. A round needle file works very well here.

As you can see on the left, I AM going by the manual. The kit came with a CD so that you can print it from your computer. At 84 total pages, I see why the paper doesn't come in the kit. This was no problem though.

Next, Right side frame assembly!

As I said previously, I am doing this section by section. Step by step is too long.
The pic shows all bearing blocks and tail drive installed, as well as one of the pitch linkages.(little blue arm in the center, between the black main blocks). Start shaft block is at the left (silver one), and the tail counter gear/ belt pulley are at the lower right.

When installing the shaft for the pitch control shaft, mine was too tight to fit the bearing in the frame side. I had to chuck it up in a drill and lightly sand it. Be very carful here as to not sand too much, or it will be TOO loose. I didn't need to take much off. Just make sure that it fits into BOTH sides of the frame.
The tail drive assembly needed some mod too. The shaft needed to be sanded lightly for a snug fit into the bearing blocks as well. Again, VERY lightly.
When putting the gear on the shaft, it is held with a set screw. This set screw pultruded out too far. There is a little hole notched into the shaft for this screw to recess into. I had to drill the hole 1 size larger so that when it was tightened down, it didn't stick out too far between the teeth. The belt pulley however was a perfect fit.
Remember to use locktight when assembling metal to metal! DO NOT put any on the tail drive assembly or the startshaft assembly when you mount it to the frame! You will have adjust these later. This will just keep you from having to do it twice. Leave the mounting screws loose for now.

Here is the upper frame assembly together with both sides on.
Note: Whether you get a G10 of a Carbon kit, I recommend using either washers or finishing caps for ALL cap head screws! There are a fer areas where you will need to adjust the position of bearing blocks when the main shaft gears are put on.

This kit comes with the push/pull set uf for pitch and cyclic controls. You can see them in the center of the photo on both sides. These will be pictured better later.

Lower front frame assembly. Following the book, I assembled the frame sides to the battery/reciever tray, then the fuel tank, only to find that the tank is a very tight fit! In fact too tight to get it in! I removed one frame side, then lightly filed the openings for the tank. This is supposed to be a tight fit for the tank, as the frames are the only thing holding it in place. Again, I used a flat needle file to sand, test fit, sand test fit untill it pressed into place. It does take a lottle force to get the tank into the frame sides. Be careful not to put too much force and bend the carbon! Reassemble the frame assebly and you are done. Install throttle servo.

Lower front frame to upper frame.
rear frame to upper frame.
Both frame assemblies fit perfectly to the upper assembly!
The rear assembly is only 3 pieces so I didn't show the assebly of it. The rear frame bolts on to the upper frame by a series of "stacks". 3 screws on either side and done. Easy. At this point all screws are locktighted with the exeption of the tail drive and the startshaft blocks. Adjustment to come later.
In the center of the upper frame, you can see one sode of the push/ pull system. I'll get a pic of the other side close up. I think it is cool the way it is set up.
Well, at this point, I have about 5 hours build time in it. No hurrying and by the book with the few mods. Not bad. That is all for now. More to follow.

Next up.......Landing gear, motor installation and head/main gear assembly.

What do you think so far?

Sorry. I was wrong. The main gear and shaft, landing gear, and tail are next.

Shown are the Main drive gear, and auto bearing and shaft mounted in the frame. Remember about the tail counter gear bearing blocks and the starter/ clutch shaft bearing block that we didn't locktite yet? Here is why. After you put the main gear with auto bearing and the main shaft in the frame, these two assemblies need to be adjusted to mesh with the main gear properly. After you have aligned these assemblies, locktite all of the screws holding them on place. The arrows show the screw locations.

Tail assembly.
This very cool. Nicely machined parts. Open tailbox! Here again, two bearings are mounted into the two tailbox sides. A very slight bit of sanding is required to make them fit properly. Very light! The tail grips are pre-assembled in the hub. As with anything pre-assembled, take it apart to make sure it has loctite! Assembly is straight forward with no hassle. Don't forget to put the belt on before completing the tailbox!

Completed tail box, mounted to boom. The box is mounted to the boom via an anodized bracket. This can allow for adjusting the belt tension without having to loosen the boom from the frame! When loose, it will turn freely on the end of the boom. There are not notches to get in the way.
