I fly a T600 and I love it... I can also fly responsibly, and I NEVER pull lame stunts like teasing dogs, touching vertical stabilizers, or anything of the like... I don't think cheapers helis are a bad thing for the hobby, since it helped me get into the 50-sized electrics. BUT I DO think that we need to watch out for each other that much more... not just because of cheaper helis, but the simple fact that there are MORE PILOTS in general... There'll be stupid pilots like these guys flying cheap helis, and there'll be guys like that flying expensive ones... a stupid person is a stupid person... Since those guys obviously don't listen to safety conscious pilots, I'd report them before they lose a finger or a limb. Granted, that may be what they deserve at the end of the day, but that also leads to bad publicity to our hobby.

Dangers

Hello Gentlemen , I'm new here and just reading what you have to say and their actions speaks largely of a lawsuit in the making, you should investigate local city ordinance, I'll bet you they are in violation somewhere here either in where they are flying or their life threatening actions. I just bought a raptor 50 as my first heli but won't start it until I have an experienced person show me the ropes and fly it for me with alot of time and sim time as well, I would rather be safe and never leave the ground than lift off once and change someones future forever the wrong way, but that's just me.

Where is this guy at? I wanna know too, being from the Tampa Area...maybe he'll try his lil stunt in Port Charlotte?

Hey Erich, that crap won't fly down here in PC at my field either and we have a bunch of guys including Steven with Rotorworkz T600's at our field and we don't tollerate AMA violations period, not too mention how unsafe and dangerous it is, what a MORON!!!

This is exactly what the electric revolution has produced, more pilots. I've been on RR for a long time with no possible way to afford actually getting a heli but with the electrics out there now I'm finally flying one too (responsibly I might add). You will always have the 1% of idiots out there but with more people getting into the hobby that 1% number grows and with that the risk of a incident that could hurt the hobby. It's happened with motorcycling.

Edit: The responsible thing to do is to advocate the hobby and say something to an irresponsible pilot. They may not listen but being shunned by peer pilots will eventually have an effect on thier attitude towards flying responsibly.

I agree with Camp, shunning them will definitely have an effect eventually, but hopefully others aren't injured due to their negligence and irresponsibility. I would warn anyone in the vacinity of the vast danger that these fools are creating and safer distance to stay in as you know that something of this caliber seems to attract attention.

maxpower097, icepirate, ErichF, Foxden, Camp,, what are you guys saying/agreeing with here ?? are you saying~ before buying a larger, faster more powerful heli a given pilot should be responsible enough to first look at his skill level and be honest with himself with rather he deserve said more powerful heli or not ??,,,,,, well I much agree,,

funny how on that other thread the guys were down on me, and now you guys here are pretty much agreeing on the same thing I said..

thanks for promoting responsibly guys !!

Well, Well, Well - Listen to all the great Helicopter Gods!

I mean come on people! common sense prevails here. We all started somewhere, so instead of bashing in this topic, (Some of you are just as bad as the people you are griping about!), Show some guidance when your out on the field and apply some sensible Education. The reason there's people out there like that......is because of the attitude portrayed in this threads like this one.

I am sorely disappointed in all

This has been a long time in the making...

Used to be that you had to have some degree of craftsmanship to build and fly helicopters. Equipment was marginal at best so you had to make up for it with excellent building practices, and you would never risk a good flying machine doing stupid and dangerous stunts with it.

Enter machines like the Raptor 30, the Trex, the 600 (and many others) add in governors, solid state gyros, and computer radios and just about any body can get into the hobby and get something "flying". I have watched the steady decline of safety at the flying field over the last 30 years and it seems to get worse every week. I see pilots build, crash, rebuild, crash again all in the same day. I know guys that buy a machine on Friday and are flying it Saturday morning. I see endless in flight failures due to poor building techniques. Think it is all bunk? Just watch as the number of pilots that get hurt starts to rise.

And then there is the culture of the heli pilot. The "I am better than you", gen-x, get out of my face punk attitude that seems to be everywhere with the latest crop of heli pilots. At my field, they (most anyway) fly where they want, how they want, when they want with no regard for anyone. Very few use the pilots boxes and even fewer are in total control of their machines. Most of the time I wait them out so I can fly in peace and not have to worry when the next newb with a super powerful machine is gonna plant one right in front of me.

I guess it is true what they say, you make it easy enough that every idiot can do it and every idiot will....

Well said, Dave. Especially after reading some posts on here, with the way some flyers rant you would think they are in competition every time they go fly. I found that flying in the early morning at my old club was an easy way to get a couple hours to myself but my ultimate goal is to buy enough land the next time I move to mow my own field (I had my own strip once already) and then I can have total say as to what goes. I'm not anti-social, it's just nice to be the one with the gavel in the courtroom for a change.

Not only the electrics. A guy at my local hobby shop walked in and bought the whole setup for a 30 size nitro. The shop owner made him promise not to try to fly it without proper training. A week later he was back in the shop to show his mangled chopper and his 200 stiches. He looked like he had been worked over by a Ninja soardsman. Funny how a chopper will chase you down instantly when you pull the wrong stick back in a panic.

Newbeeee

I'm a newbee and feel insulted by the words and the actions of the few, I just bought a complete raptor 50( with all upgrades and tools to maintain and fly) from another newbee, he didn't have the time to learn more than basic hovering. I'm not 20 something and vowed by what I have seen on the internet( accidents and crashes) just what potential lies when inexperience takes over. The fields must seem to be more worried about the bottom dollar than the safety of others , or they wouldn't let them fly so careless, but maybe most of these aren't at sanctioned fields. I like Helikrashers thoughts about getting enough land to fly on under his control.I made a promise to my wife if I got one that I would fly responsible and not go out and kill some kid's or hurt them seriously.I have flown the simulator and can take off with planes and land all day long , but helo's I can hover sometimes and land and other times it is like a magnet to the ground, I will go to the local club and get some instruction from some experienced pilots before I even fire it up and even then,it will be in the company of experienced pilots.

WHY ???
I'm still learning and have taught myself with a sim and training gearer and suggestions from other helis owners. I always make sure I'm flying in an area where a crash will injure no one or any property except mine.

Newbeeee

I guess what I was trying to say is that there is alway's someone doing the wrong thing or in a haphazard way. I remeber when I and some friends had jetski's in the 90's and every idiot thought they were a boater because they could buy a jetski and start and move it around the water. No boating instruction, or what they thought was boating regulations, and they gave the sport a bad name, needless to say we all sold our ski's and bought a boat. It looks like the same course is taking place in the r/c heli world and not just heli's , planes also. I was once young and foolish and will admit to that, but I never would've done something like what I read about and hear about all the time. I commend you on your abilities to self teach and respect where and when you fly, but we are becoming the minority and the majority is going to be the ones buying these and flying with little regard for anyones safety including there's, the old adage that it will never happen to me is what they think or how they think, people who drink do it everyday, they know when they drink they are going to get buzzed, and still drive home or to work everyday. You're never going to win this battle of the idiots because it's in there freedoms as a citizen, that is why the clubs and local municipal code have to limit the wrong doing or else the clubs get the bad rap and then the insurance will go up to astronomical amounts, this is what groups who want to ban the sport want to happen .
