| Was also thinking .... when you fly any RC aircraft, only you the pilot knows how dangerous it is. Whether it's kids or adults that are spectators, chances are (especially kids) that they think you have 100% control at all times and don't realize how difficult it actually is to fly one. I bet if the parents of all those kids knew how dangerous they can be (or even saw on hit the ground and shred itself to pieces) they probably would have second-guessed letting their kids sit in the stands that close. I know I would. I've heard enough people call them toy airplanes and toy helicopter until they see one up close and personal. After that they usually gain a sense of respect for the hobby. I like to think that at an RC field that other pilots know to look out for helis on the ground or in the air but when piloting I think you should still consider yourself responsible for at least calling out to alert everyone if you lose control or something malfunctions. Anytime I go to the field I feel that the safety of anybody I take with me is my responsibility (again, especially kids) as well. When it comes to safety, it's mostly just common sense. I think if you plan on flying in a reckless manner or plan on trying some crazy new maneuvers, at least warn everyone so those that aren't comfortable in your pilot skills can leave, take cover, or ask that you wait until they can move to a safer distance first. I wouldn't take my kids out in football gear to watch helis but I've seen some flying that I would definately not want my kids within 1000' feet of, or more for that matter. It's really sad to hear about kids getting an RC related injury. Flying RC is like having a daangerous power tool with 0 safety gaurds on it. And while failsafe is a very good idea for airplanes, there's not really any failsafe for helis. Just got to thinking cause it's late and I'm tired but I figured I would throw my personal oopinion on safety out there. Be safe, fly happy!
