Hello,
FYI just checked with the discount website and they told me that the price on the MS Hornet Pro kit was an error. Would of been nice though.

I had a great time with my Hornet X3D. It is different to build because you glue most of it together. I had a bad bounce, knocked a skid off and got a blade strike, my bad. When I fixed it I didn't see a crack in the anti rotation pin support... So the first time I flew it that fell off and a big crash followed. So I repaired it and the first time I flew it again the swashplate separated and I had another big crash. That I'm fixing it again shows how much I dig this heli (and how stubborn I am) but if you glue together a heli from tiny CF pieces it is pretty hard to know how much damage is done in a crash. I really looked long and hard at all of the parts this time. Wish me luck! Oh, as for the intent of this thread, you should buy one, everybody should, we should all own at least 10 heli's each

well I orignally started this thread, I ended up getting a blade cp pro for ease of parts and relatively low cost.

We'll see how that does and then maybe move up to something else later.

Have fun with the blade, I have one of those and they are fun. But I personaly wouldn't spend a lot of money on upgrades for it, your CP pro out of the box has enough upgrades. A Hornet will eat a blade alive! But a Blade is a better heli for learning and getting comfortable with heli's. Oh, it didn't sound like it in my post but I got easily a hundred flights on my Hornet. eric

yea, i'm just playing in my backyard with the thing, I'm just doing the direct drive tail and a brushless motor. The backyard doesn't fit the trex too well.

I've been flying the snot out of my BCP and my Hornet has been staying on it's pirch - The simplicity and local availablility of parts make my BCP my preferred ship right now - Brushless motors and a GY401 make it plenty capable for my enjoyment for now - Someday I'll have a satisfactory tail setup on my Hornet and enjoy flying it again - I think I'm gonna try a Maxir tail box and SJM300 hub and slider set on it - But for now it's all about my BCP

WHAT!!!! I mean what's up with your Hornet tail? Get a stock X-3D on there with a straightened steel drive or the old lighter 2mm CF, the 3 stock tails I have will all out perform my motorised options in loops and rolls (all right I haven't looped the Ecureuil 3 blade yet...). Finally got a Futaba s3154 digital in the post to better suit the 2100t gyro, to replace a pretty old HS-50 that isn't cutting it on a 4s XL setup (160w 3K 610mm punch out).
The thing my BladeCP like machine has going for it is a super low disk loading at 292g all up and a very tame comfortable cyclic control, where a Hornet's low rotor height with sharp bell-hiller mixing is not best suited for cruising (in comparison). As I can't always take a sky rocket heart rate every flight, then the little simple soft Blade CP like machine has it's place.

I'm not saying the stock Hornet tail system doesn't work - There's just some room for improvement IMO and I've been keeping my eye out for just the right set of parts to meet 'my personal' satisfaction

Yea sorry, I forgot you changed your name, I think you've had these things in the air longer than me . There's that trade off bias more toward saving weight rather than crash robustness on the Hornets and there sometimes can be a couple of those little production niggles to over come . The MaxIR should be pretty much the same but easier to get at those tail gears if required.

You said it Darkhorse! I am also rebuilding my Hornet with lighter and or better components. A spectrum 6100 3.5gm RX and Logitech 2100 gyro and a Futaba digital micro for the tail. Im moving it fwd to get the CG right also. I was always tail heavy before.

I have a 2100T on it right now and will be trying an S3154 with it - Are you running it in digital or analog mode? - My ESC overheats in digi mode with an HDS-877 - Not sure what's goin on there

I haven't spent enough time with the 2100T to really figure it out - I tried setting it up like I do my GY401 by adjusting it mechanically in Rate mode but when I switched to HH mode it wanted a bunch of trim - Kinda acts like my G90 which also doesn't behave much like I expect an HH gyro to behave like - Both seem to hold pretty well after clicking in some trim though

I know I am in the UK but have a super X3D fully metal head complete with servos, esc and brushless motor/Kok blades that flys a treat - slimming down fleet and if anyone wants a bargain for £150 I will send it - loads of spares also and a TP lipo thrown in.

You will need to add a gyro - the 240 works very well on this one.
