e-MS Composit Hornet > Thinking of getting an X3d

Was wondering how these are out of the box. Do I need the pro version? How durable are they in the crash and do any Local blades such as blade cp blades fit on this thing? Also, can you get really good climbout rates with power capable of doing tic tocs? I need something a little smaller than my trex 450 for my backyard and everything I find seems to be junk. The walkera 52 is crap. The minizoom pro is a nice little toy but not much else. This looks like it could be the ticket and at least have some parts availability.

What about the JR parkmite? The hornet is a b!tch to build and maintain.

I don't think any other micro performs as well as the Hornet though except maybe the more expensive Maxir and possibly the 3D Pro - Theres just not a lot of choice for high performance micros out there - I think the Trex and BCP pretty much killed the micro market - BCPs are super cheap and everything else is 450 size -

I wouldn't say the Hornet is all that bad to build and all - It's just not as simple as a BCP and finickier than a Trex.

I hear the parts are real expensive for this hornet though although it looks like the best of the micro 300 size helis at least in terms of decent quality and parts availability.

Parts used to be more expensive but they placed like a new main distributor here in the US and I think prices have fallen by about a third maybe -

For really good deals the old distributor? MRCarbon is liquidating his stock with really slashed prices -

yes, I see the prices are cheaper. question, it says like 7 bucks for a main shaft, the picture shows 4 of them, is it one for 7 dollars or 4 for 7 dollars? How do the aluminum parts hold up in a crash? On my mini zoom, they bend, do these hold up alright?

I'm thinking of this heli or the maxir. Probably this one as it seems to have marginally better parts support.

Bottom line, I just want something that I can fly and have fun with.
Will this thing take hs65 servos?

and does it take blade cp blades? I'm asking because thats what at my local heli store and i'd like to be able to get blades if I need them.

I think i've pretty much ruled out the blade as the tail motor helis seem to have problems, and then once you start going hdx300, they supposedly have more problems.

OMG how could you..., imagine that... I just checked, no the BCP/CP2 blades are 1mm too thick at the grip. Those wide chord blades are better suited to the lower head speeds of 2000 rpm. Being shorter and with a lot more drag I wouldn't bother with them on a Hornet unless you really want to make your Hornet fly like a BCP/CP2.

My modified CP2 fly's really well on H2 weighted CFs for a larger rotor span of 570mm and has one of the lowest disk loading numbers of any micro in a 300g hover (See calcAdvanced.htm).
Saddled with the problems of a motorised tail renders the CP2 a little lame on the amount of power that can be delivered to the rotor with a stable tail.

.. blah blah baaaaa, anyway the short of it is the X-3D with light weight recommended electronics is a long way from my CP2. A low part count helps but still not from the regular crash testers.
Give the stock plastic a go, mine flew for over a year without any need for ali, even then I would only try the head and grips. As with most heli's, keep the weight low.

I was using HS-56s on my Duzi servo mounts - They might fit in the stock layout but I don't know - They're pretty big and weighty on a Hornet - My H2 was 400g at one point with 'em - I recommend Futaba S3114s instead - I trimmed 30g just switching from HS-56s and GY401 to S3114s and 2100T -

The picture of the main shafts you seen I think shows 4 different shafts for 4 different helis all in one pic - I haven't bought MS main shafts since '05 but I'm pretty certain you only get 1 shaft for the price listed - I'm using a Duzi head and paying $12 a piece for shafts and spindles.

I think the MS metal parts will hold up in crashes alright - My Duzi parts hold up well - My mH tail box is pretty soft though - I'm looking to replace it with something better - Maxir or 3D Pro plastic tail box maybe - I need the extended pivot for a 90° lever else I'd stick with the stock MS tail box.

damn, now I know why people are saying its pricey 8 bucks for a main shaft is pricey. I wanted to use the hs65's because they have ball bearings. are their servos better suited for this with ball bearings?

I doubt it - The 56s/65s are the smallest bearing'd servos I know of - I really think S3114s are the best choice for this heli for size weight speed & torque - The weight of 3 HS-65MGs is the weight of 5 S3114s at no real extra benefit.

almost 11 dollars for a main shaft for the aluminum head? I think its like 6 bucks for main gears? I love this heli, but man, a crash will kill you.

So as I understand it. There are no blades other than hornet blades that will work on this thing right?

What about main gears and main shafts? Will other things work that aren't so expensive?

And do I really need the bling? I was really ready to get the compy but I'm looking for something that can do acrobatics and all the compy people are doing is flying around like a coaxial which is nice if that floats your boat but thats not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something I can do hardcore 3d with when my skills get to that point that I can fly in my yard or in front of my house. and my trex450 is a little bit too big.

BTW, does anyone have a picture of the size difference between this and a trex450?

robl45, you really can't decide what to get can you .

It is CP2/BladeCP sized with a longer 560 mm rotor set lower.
JustPlaneChris's Fleet Left to right: T-Rex, CP2, X-3D, HbeeFP2.

Some cost cutting measures are listed in the RCG MS Hornet, the die hard micro, thread. Or try the Tricks of the Trade: Poor Man's Hornet 2. Be warned that going cheap can significantly compromise flight capability.

True, like it, at least that's the theory CChaos

nope

I know I need something smaller than the trex450 for my yard, I was out there yesterday and its just too big to do much, unless I really poor money in so I can execute maneuvers right in front of me.

Maxir doesn't seem much smaller and frankly the parts seem as expensive or more than this one.

Hey look it's my heli's from the past. Wow I miss those 2 heli's. My best flying micro and mini ever.

If your yard is not big enough to fly the trex than the hornet will not do it either. Just won't be fun enough in a tight space. It's probably cheaper to fix the trex than the hornet if you crash in your yard.

Must have more POWER!

yea, much cheaper to fix the trex, the yeard is just a weebit too small, I can fly in the back yard, but its awefully tight to be flipping and rolling.
