Dia.?

The stock boom dia. = .708 inches
The CF boom = .712 inches but the ID is smaller so you have to shave the tail rotor cage down just a skosh to fit it in.

I've been too hard on the stock alum booms, so I've been looking for something more durable without the cost of CF. Go to WalMart in the automotive section and find the area where the carwash brushes are located. There is a telescoping brush and pole. The smaller section of the pole is 18mm. I bought one for $9.97, removed the brush, and cut a section to match the original boom. I had to work on the tail box a little to get it to fit because of the wall thickness, but it works great. This boom weighs about 64 grams, and I think the original one weighs 25 grams. You won't need boom supports with the this new one because of it being thicker.
Durable and nice powder coating too.

Well… That’s a very resourceful piece of engineering there, and no doubt have stiffened up the boom itself. I just wonder how much actual flight time you’re loosing from the additional weight?
The reason I, and probably everyone else, went to CF was for the weight savings/flight time gains for an already tail heavy craft that got even more tail heavy with the addition of the boom supports. However… the boom support was also designed to help keep the wimpy plastic boom clamps from ripping out from vibration, hard landing or worse. If your weight calculations are correct… you’ve almost tripled the weight factor of the tail boom and in turn almost tripled the load/torque factor on those poor little wimpy clamps. I don’t know what frame you’re running but I hope your running aluminum boom clamps as well?
