Safety - RC Helis are not toys > RC helicopter hits guy in leg.

The term "Toys" is relative however. The old addage "the only difference between big boys and little boys is the cost of their toys" somewhat applies here. The Corvette example used in this thread is someone's toy, however owning one doesn't give them the right to drive it like a bat out of hell while putting others at risk. Putting themselves at risk is fine, but not others. I know others who have caches of firearms as toys, but they operate them responsibly. The government regulates by age who drives cars and owns guns in an attempt to keep them out of the hands of irresponsible or immature hands. I am not an advocate of the government regulating RC's, but I do believe RC's must be operated by responsible mature individules. As we all know, age is not synonymous with maturity.

[quote]indemnity" policy and therefore useless against accidents. The pilot must be proved negligent in order to have a pay out to the injured party. Makes you wounder why so many flying clubs in the UK bother eh?

i dont understand, here, so if my turbine suddenly has a flame out and comes down in field where say people are picking or harvesting vegetables ( my clubs field is only 240 feet in width so we fly out round out field) and i seriously injure someone they owuld not get any compensation whatso ever ? cos it would not be pilot neglegance, i suppose it would be classed as ACT OF GOD,

But then going back to post above, if you dont get |BMFA insurance what other insurance is there ? as i have just done a google search and no one would insure, whihc leads to my next question, are full size pilots insured ? as we are as car drivers ?

Intrested in hearing answers to this

For the benefit of our overseas brethren I should point out that in order to join any BMFA affiliated club, hold office or even fly at any BMFA event you must hold BMFA membership. I imagine you could get a comparable Insurance somewhere, its just that not many sites accept it:Thats why UK clubs join the BMFA.

That was an awful injury and I for one am glad it was only his leg and not something higher up.

Lack of blood...

Having no medical background other than paying attention to my first aid training.
Things I have heard about injuries such as this deal with hydrostatic shock (sp?) The force of the impact and resulting cut void the area of blood due to sheer force. Additionally the force can shock blood vessels to constrict and reduce blood flow.

Is this true? I am not sure. I have however helped a surfer who was sliced by a skeg on his thigh. Surprisingly little blood and I had to pack his wound after pushing muscle back in.

Quote
The topic of this thread IS appropriate. Two days ago I was having a ball with my T-Rex. While swinging left to right in front of me at about 2 feet agl, the main rotor struck my knee cap then promptly crashed

2 feet?!

I figure either COMMON SENSE or the heli was bound to hit you.
Unfortunately, I believe that the heli hit you first.

Wally_Gator: Yes, it is true. I once cut my leg open. And it took a long time before it started bleeding, you could see the bone

It's not fake!
But to jump up and say ITS FAKE just because there is no blood is just silly, besides if i'm going to fake that and make it look that real, you can bet i'll have a gallon of blood standing by for the effect.
When My son was 8 years old he ran through a glass door, unopened,
Not saftey glass. He was opened up like that in several places,
He was lucky to have his guts stay in, and some of the big ones did not bleed, you could look right in and see the whole hidious mess.
Thank God for plastic surgions cause he's a cute kid.

I took a huge chunk out of my leg in a motorcycle accident when I was 12 and it didn't bleed at all for a little while then it came pouring out. I doubt that was fake at all.

I had a similar gash resulting from a motorcycle accident. It only bled a few drops at the time. Most of the bleeding happened the first time I changed the bandage. I don't know if it was fake but it sure didn't feel like it!
