ask your mate Turbine Master he has been Pming me left right and centre,

Peter for info wasnt chairman at that club when this occurred,

i thought at first it wasnt real, due to the fact someone outside the Uk uploaded it, and the video was over a year old, and coming from a medical background i would expect leg injuries like to be alot more bloody, so i questioned it, as with most of the vids on here they are made up using software.

i admitted i was wrong when Ba board said ring Peter as it happned at his field, when i spoke to peter he confirmed it.

So i admitted on this forum i was wrong.

But to be fair when most of the vids are loaded up onto a public forum it is gonna be questioned.

That injury is very severe, i would be surprised is the lad doesnt walk with a limp.

have a good weekend

Matt

Have fun daz

Blood

Take a look in my gallery and you can see the bones in my finger. Not much blood. Had to sit in the ER for over 8 hours with no pain medication or treatment AT ALL, except for a plunge into a stainless steel bowl of peroxide!!!! Took over 100 stitches and some skin grafting to fix this one. OS 40fp and master airscrew 10x6 prop.

To all of you who have shown an interest in this topic, You will see from the post's that I am now the Chairman of the club at which Martyn was injured
I was not at the club site the day it happened, so what I say is what I was told, after we had a through investigation.
The very experienced pilot lost control of his helicopter after a tail end failure, and the spectators were parked too close to the flight line
It has taken a while for Martyn to fully recover, and is now back to his old self, no limp, no sticks. and still flying.
No matter how dilligent we are, accidents will still happen, as no sport is totally risk free

Fingers

I experienced a stinging/numb feeling for quite a while. Again, the hospital refused to administer aspirin, Ibuprofen, or any pain killers whatsoever. I sat for nearly 9 hours while waiting for a plastic surgeon to come look at the damage. Going ballistic wasn't going to help anything at all.

The worst part was when the surgeon said, " I hate to ask you to do this, but I need you to make a tight fist so I can watch the tendons and ligaments move." I did as he requested, which revealed cut tendons. NOT FUN!

The topic of this thread IS appropriate. Two days ago I was having a ball with my T-Rex. While swinging left to right in front of me at about 2 feet agl, the main rotor struck my knee cap then promptly crashed. Although I felt a twinge of pain in my knee, I was more concerned with the condition of the heli. I quickly discovered that both CF main blades had broken at the blade grips. Following a string of invectives, I secured the heli and TX then took a look at the damage to self (other than ego). The prognosis was quickly ascertained to be multiple blade strikes to the knee resulting in two deep lacerations each approximately two inches long. There was a little bleeding but not as much as I would have expected. So, it was off to the ER (11:30 P.M.). Upon check-in, nurse asked why I was there to which I replied (for the sake of levity) "I was in a helicopter crash. This produced very perplexed look from her and later the Doc. Long story short, two hours and thirteen stitches later (and about $20.00 in heli parts) I am back flying again. Note to self: have respect for these little flying machines for they can quickly become ATTACK HELICOPTERS!

I think it just proves that these machines are not "toys" as some people would have and that they need to be treated with a great deal of respect, and in the light of some of these accidents perhaps safety protocols need to be revised at flying sites. I would like to believe that we can learn some things from this, like parking cars further away perhaps and not having people stood too close behind us. I use these as examples only

That's the exact reason why I won't let my wife and daughter come to the flying field to watch "daddy" fly. You just never know....

And of course the injured party is still doing battle with the BMFA over this
Like I said before, the BMFA insurance is an "indemnity" policy and therefore useless against accidents. The pilot must be proved negligent in order to have a pay out to the injured party. Makes you wounder why so many flying clubs in the UK bother eh?
