fwiw..

As another force driving the SS technology, all it will take is an injury caused by 72 Mhz interference...PI lawyers love this stuff..Piper has been sued for not installing shoulder harnesses in the J3!

Is anyone who is going to buy this system willing to lend it to me for testing purposes? I only need it for one night and will ship it back the next day.

Thanks,
John

Not any more . . . . in this case anyway. Just a few years ago, a law was passed preventing lawsuits against aircraft manufacturere from being sued for such things after the plane has been in service for over 12 years. The main reason for the law was that the US light plane industry had effectively died because of the lawyers. No one was making production light planes any more. Only after that law was passed did Cessna and Piper gear up production again on light singles.

JKOS,

I recommend you purchase your own for testing. Tower now has them listed. If you don't like it, they accept returns without asking a question.

Gee, sorry I asked.

Folks have volunteered to send me stuff to test before, so I figured I would just ask on this one.

The comment was curt and unfortunate given the amount of time you have spent to educate us all of the relative latency issues with the radios on the market today. I'll wager that A LOT of the other readers of your original testing thread will agree.

Yeah, that was an unfortunate comment, especially from a member that has been here since 2001. Rest assured, most of us appreciate your work. If I planned on getting one, I'd consider sending it to you because it's the dead of winter here, and I don't like flying in sub-freezing temperatures anymore.

Guys I think you took it the wrong way. IMHO D.W. meant no offence. He just said that one can buy the Tx from Towerhobbies, do the testing and then return it for a full refund. This saves quite a lot of hassle and is the most secure way. If you think about it a lot of things can go wrong when somebody you don't know personally sends you a rather expensive toy to play with.

I consider buying something with full intent to return it just plain wrong.

I've borrowed a 10X, 9ZWC2, 9C, 9C Super, 7C, Eclipse 7, and Multiplex IPD rx before. If I still lived in Albuquerque, I could easily borrow this system from the LHS when they come in, but I live 2000 miles away now and don't have the same connection with the LHS here (and probably never will... zero heli support).

Thanks for the support. And yes, I believe my suggestion was taken the wrong way. Perhaps if I had worded it "If no one offers to loan you one, you could always buy it form Tower yada-yada-yada." things might have been different. It was meant as a serious suggestion with no offense intended.

I have tried out several items in this manner. When a business offers "No questions asked returns" I take it to mean exactly that. Having never purchased anything with the sole intention of taking it back, I have returned many, many things when the product didn't live up to my expectations. My suggestion was "If you don't like it, they accept returns without asking a question.", not "Buy it knowing you will return it and do your testing". Not knowing JKOS from the man in the moon, I thought your testing was to see if you wanted to buy one for yourself. After the surprising responses to my message, I looked at your previous messages and now know what your real intentions are. Perhaps the unfortunate thing is, you assumed everyone knew what your previous work was and that I would know those intentions. If you had stated: "Will someone please loan me one so I can test it and add its data to my archive, see message xxxxx" I might have known what you are wanting to do.

In any case, I offer no apologies to you because my intentions were in no way meant to be offensive. Your testing seems to be helpful to many. Keep up the good work.

Hey D.W.,
Gotcha. It's all good. Sorry for my misunderstanding of your post. My response probably wasn't appropriate.

No issues with that! I just ordered some "non-major brand" LiPos that have a 30-day no-questions-asked return policy. Believe, if they don't cut it, they're going back.

It's almost cute watching how easily some people are offended . . . . if you weren't in the middle of it.

Alls well that ends well.

While I think your latency testing will be helpful to some, the only time I have noticed a difference in 2 transmitters was when I switched a CCPM heli from a 9C to 14mz. I had become so accustomed to correcting cyclic during some maneuvers that I first thought something was wrong with the 14mz. I now realize that I was automatically adding corrective input to the cyclic when it was no longer needed.

Latency, in my humble opinion, is not noticed by the vast majority of us during every day flying. It might be noticed when switching from a high to low latency system or vice versa, but if so, after a few flights it would all seem normal again. In reality, I believe it is actually a placebo effect when one has been conditioned to think one system is better than another. Your idea of having some way to change the latency of a system without the users knowledge would be great. However, the procedure would have to be carefully set up to be accurate.

How about a timer?

I've never used or handled this radio so I'm wondering if the 6EX platform Futaba used has a timer. For me, a timer that is slaved to a switch or stick is extremely important. I cooked a battery pack once by running it too long and too low. Anyone know if it does/does not have a timer?
