FASST

I saw this radio flying in a Freya last weekend. It is a 6 channel full range radio, not just for park flyers. It was in the air with both 72MHZ models and 2.4GHz models and seemed to work fine as both range and response were normal.

FASST - Futaba Advanced Spread Spectrum Technology
Fully expanded six-channel computer system with ergonomically efficient hand-held transmitter incorporating FASST 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum technology, for indoor and park-fly model aircraft and micro helicopters.

That's odd as it states just the opposite on the web site. Where did you hear that? Did they have something different than this radio?

Park Flyer

The radio was a 6 channel FASST prototype being tested in a real life flying environment. I specifically asked and was told the the radio was full range, not just for park flyers and micro helis. Like I said, it was in a 91 powered Freya and flying to extremes of range without any (at least apparent) issues. If there were any range or orientation problems with it, I could not tell by observation.

I'm waiting for a 12Z 2.4 GHz with brushless servos. It's good to see some action.

Well the T6EX received its FCC certification on the 31st Jan, Power output measured at 80mW and is a DSSS system

The one shown on the robbe website is the T6EXP but it states FHSS so perhaps there are 2 systems from Futaba.

One of the greatest liabilities in the whole SS discussion lies in the fact only one company so far has a serious presence in the model aircraft/heli market, in spite of several "soon to be released" claims by other companies. Because of this, the general public has nothing to compare to with respect to technology and methodology. Make no mistake. All SS technology is not done the same way, and future offerings from companies such as Futaba are determined by the technology needed to COEXIST with the CURRENT SS technology. So, if you don't know for sure the answers to such questions as whether the SS system you're now using, whoever makes it, truly channel hops in response to the environment encountered and is it truly immune to the output from other potential SS technology, then you can't honestly condemn or otherwise poke fun at those mfg's, some of whom had been doing industrial SS for YEARS before Spectrum was even a thought in a man's head, who have chosen to R&D the BEST possible SS technology rather the first.

Someone around there must be testing those already announced brushless servo motors ?

Brushless

There are currently no Futaba brushless servos in the US, even for testing to my knowlege. They are on the way but not ready yet,

Sounds very promising, I hope, so as may others, that 'soon to come'
will actually turn out to be until summer 2007.

Yet still I can't quite imagine how a plugin 14MZ module would look
like and integrate with the microwave antenna, but I am sure Futaba
is working on that.

At this point I can see people wanting the SS technology so bad that
they actually consider selling an otherwise far superior Futaba radio
in favor of an JR type SS radio.

Let's hope Futaba does not miss the boat on that. This time it seems
Spectrum/JR is clearly leading the way with this new technology.

Cheers

Kay

Just Announced

Full range Futaba 2.4 GHz FASST 6-Channel Air System

* Good news!!! We'll be unveiling the new 2.4 FASST (Futaba
Advanced Spread Spectrum Technology)at E-FEST next weekend. For those
of you who are in the area, or will be here this will be the first
chance to see and feel the new system.

* We are especially happy to announce that the new system will be
a "full range" system, meaning that you'll be able to fly it in
anything that you've got. It's no longer designated as a "park
flyer" system.

* Testing in Japan as well as Hobbico has proven that the system
works well as far as you can see. We've also done extensive testing
with other 2.4 systems on the market, with no problems exhibited on
either side. This will give you factual info when people ask!

* The systems should be in stock by the end of March, and
the "retail" price on it will be $249.99.

Which is the post just above yours Ben. Tony Stillman posted on another forum so I thought it was fine to post here. Plus the announcement did not say to keep it quiet.

And there has NOT been anything else said. No news about modules, other systems, no other news. ALL that has been said is what I posted above.

If Futaba was smart, they should at least release a 7 channel version too. If all they release is a 6 channel version, who wants that for a heli? Can't even run a GY401 + governor with selectable speeds with a 6 channel radio. What good is that?
