Crash

I was there not 10 feet away from the crash. It doesn't matter who the pilot was. Part of the problem was demo pilots were to close to the action! I feel bad for the pilot not much me could do and he was very upset. Most important pilot that got hit reacted quick enough to protect himself and wasn't hurt bad. Doesn't matter how good you are things happen with machines you can't control.

Whoever just posted that you don't get to fly is completely wrong. I just got home, flew as much as I wanted. Not everyone is flying all the time or in line. That are so many other things to do. I never waited more than 10 minutes and that was only twice. You don't even have to walk to an open station, they have golf carts to pick you up immediately and take you, your heli and all tools and spotter wherever you need to go. This event could not be better organized and if you didn't get to go this year start saving for next year!

I've been to the last four Jamborees. I was only able to attend this year on friday due to other commitments. I heard the pilots name that was starting his demo and headed towards show center as I have always wanted to see him fly in person. I wasn't close enough to really know what happened, but I thought he caught the ground with the tail and then it headed for the spectators. I'm guessing something broke causing the rest of the crash. It's too bad that Mike got hurt and we are all fortunate it was really pretty minor compared to what it could have been.

On another note, my single biggest gripe about IRCHA is T-shirts. The last three years, by the time I got there, all the XXL shirts were gone and I'm stuck getting one I can't wear. Doesn't it seem that IRCHA is missing the boat on T-shirt sales??? I was at the Hoosier Heli Rumble last month and picked up two event shirts there. I also fly profile planks at several events per year and always pick up a couple of those event shirts. Why is IRCHA too short-sighted to have extra shirts for sale at the Jamboree? I think last year someone made shirts available after the event was over but I want them when I am there, not a month or so later.

Last year I thought the Jamboree was not attended as well as previous years, mostly by vendors, but this year was the best yet! Anything and everything was available to be had from the various vendors there. I think nearly every one of them got some of my money

Night Fly was Fanstastic

The night fly was fantastic. There was a 3 way run off between Andy Rummer, Bobby Watts and Bert Kammmerer. All three of them were fantastic and any one of the three could have won but Andy won by a slim, slim margin. He used intermitent lights that flash on and off when he was flying and at one time he did a real high auto starting out with the lights off. Bert just scrape the ground constantly and Bobby Watts was down on the deck a lot too. The interesting thing about it was that another guy from Germany probably had one of the most unique night flies ever. He completely flew without any lights on his helicopter anywhere. He had 2 guys shining flashlights at his helicopter as he flew and he flew well, but the other guys got so much crowd support that they were pick ahead of him to fly in the final. Kyle Stacy also did a great night fly as well.

The only thing that was kind of distressing was that the Grand Prize an Avant was given away at first to someone that had a factory shirt on of a vendor. After his name was call and he walked up to get the grand prize which was valued at probably 3000 dollars or more. They disqualified him because they said it was suppose to go to a person that was not a rep or sponsered pilot by anybody. The guy said he had not heard that and didn't know that, and even though he wore that shirt he didn't even have a helicopter and was not sponsered by anyone. However one of the people that supposely sponsered him was call up and verfied that he was a sponsered pilot and he was disqualified from getting the helicopter. Another name was drawn and it was given to someone else. Needless to say he was not happy at all.

Final Pilot count for the Day

Final pilot count for the day was 712 pilots including some really cool noon demos from Alan Szabo, Jason Krause, Daniel Jetechin, Colin Bell, Andy Rummmer, Bobby Watts, Bert Kammerer and many others. My only probably with the noon demos is sometimes they go to long, especially with the T-rexes. I have a T-rex but don't enjoy seeing them that much at the noon demos, but maybe a lot of other people might like it.

I have to say that I have been wanting to see some night flying for quite a while and was very pleased to finally witness it first hand.

The gentleman who flew the "spot light" night fly, was very, very impressive! That was just out of sight! Almost litterally. Way cool!

As for the guy who "didn't" win the Avant, I felt they made it VERY clear, right up front, that a sponsored, Team pilot, field rep. etc. would NOT be eligible to win the Avant. I took that to mean if your associated in any way with a heli company, your out. Sorry, but they wanted it to go to an average Joe.
And I thought that was their decision and it was a good thing, IMO. The guy who almost won, not mentioning the name and Team, someone else can but I won't, apparently raised some cain, but it was made clear up front.

This was my first year at IRCHA, but it will not be my last. It was a great event and my only regrets are that I didn't have a million bucks to spend on all the cool stuff there. It was also nice to meet and talk to some of the "big" name pilots! and of course, lots of really neat helis there.
I especially liked the Beam 450, talk about some precision work! It was a work of art if you ask me.
Man, those Logo's were awesome, they appeared to be soooo smooth and crisp.
Of course, lots of trex 600's, looks like the raptor is taking a back seat to those.
I really enjoyed watching Jason Krause fly, he is just, well, darn good.
I liked Kyle Stacy's style as well, and many others.

Already waiting for next years event!

That M.A. Beam sure is a beauty. How about the Vibe 50? Can't wait for that to be released. The Thunder Power Micro did not impress me in person at all. And the Beam is hundres of dollars less.

I wasn'there and have not ssen any vids until yet.

But ... after reading this description ... i think it was Nico Niewind. I will ask him the next days if he did it again ... really crazy!

I thik Nico does this kind of night flying for about 3 or 4 years now.

The first time i have seen it was at our german heli meeting in Dietzenbach near Frankfurt in 2005.

This was the first time that Steven and I attended the event, it was great to finally put a face to the email traffic we shared. We also had an 18 hour drive back home and it was worth every mile up and back, we will definetly be back next year.

Care to tell me when? I NEVER heard or saw in writing a thing about the sponsored reps not able to win UNTIL just before the drawing was done. And there is nothing on their web site about it ether.
Personally, I feel they kinda screwed me and other reps out of our 25.00 Ircha membership fee.
IF the Ircha management had been honest and upfront about it, IF they had told us when we registered or preregistered, that we would NOT be eligiable for that drawing, I know I wouldn't have renewed.
It was basically a 25.00 raffle ticket.

Other than that issue,
The event was Great, I enjoyed doing over 25 hrs of volenteer work,
{even though I didnt win nuttin

}
it kept me busy and I got to see and meet a lot of new people. I even got to fly several flights this year!!

Anyone want a pet rabbit?.............I found him on the road dead and I'm tired of hugging him
