I have a Rigid 18v Lithium drill and I'm looking to hook it up to my Dynatron. Know where I can get an adaptor? The drill and batteries are gaurenteeed for life! I'll see how long that is.

"Damage $460.00"

You must have bought a combo kit....

Hi Rob,

The Drill set, Charger and 2 x 1.5Ah LiIons cost Singapore dollar $460.

I did purchase a another 3Ah battery for the Dynatron at S$200!!!! All because, the store does not sell the drill set with 3Ah batteries!. This is a pro con job by the industry I think!

Anyway, what matters now is the end result, a solid compact motor starter!

I have been using a 19.2v Craftsman drill to start my heli's (Raptor's) but haven't been too satisfied. When starting it really ratchets, kinda like an impact wrench because of the slower rpm and the compression of the Hyper. It can't be too good on the one way clutch bearing or the drill. Matter of fact, it just took the bearings out of my 50 se Hyper that only has a dozen flights on it. Thats why I was looking for something different.

So thanks to this thread, I have a Dynatron, Finer Edge Adapter, battery, and charger all on order. Can't wait to try it out. The added torque and RPM has to be much better on the starter shaft and bearings than using the cordless drill.

I just got this setup with a Sully Dyno starter. Any tips on how to install? I don't want to ruin anything and the instructions are not all that great. (IMHO)

I just got an adapter from Kevin at Finer Edge and put it on a Dynatron. I'll have to plug Kevin and the adapter he makes. I ordered it on Saturday and it was in the mailbox on Monday! That is superfast shipping. Being a machinist of 27 years, I can see quality when its there...And it is there! Everything fits together like a glove and the machining looks flawless.

He sent an email with instructions and a print/drawing of the adapter mounted to a starter. Its a little confusing if you just read the directions without actually mounting the adapter. It makes a lot of sense once you start disasembling your starter and take the rods out of your starter to turn them around. You have to do this to mount the couplers on the backside of the starter. You'll see.

If you have any questions, post here and and I'm sure you will get help.

I agree with others here...I believe this will be the last starter I will need. It spins over anything I have with authority! I like it!

I received a PM from Kevin and I he is going to help me install it. Awesome customer service. I just ordered a Sullivan shaft. Sure hope this is my last starter, have a lot invested in it. Pretty awesome setup. I looked at a lot others and this seemed to be the best option. Probably not much more then similar setups and as stated before, now I can pickup some power tools to use with my pack and charger. Thanks Kevin.

I thought the same thing. I ordered two 3ah batteries and the quick charger off Ebay. Then I was thinking my 19.2v Craftsman was getting some age on it. So I bought the LXT model drill without batteries for about 70 bucks. Its a much nicer cordless drill than the Craftsman....

Just a note to watch some of the links posted earlier in this thread. Some of the clearance/refurbished kits only have the 1.5ah batteries and the charger is not the good quick charger. It cost about the same off Ebay to get the individual pieces and I got exactly what I wanted.

in response to the guy asking about the best way to tighten the nut on the starters, so the cone doesn't spin off. . . since we're on the subject of Makita tools. . . the Makita 3/8" drive impact wrench is unbeatable. I repair/modify Motocross bikes, and this tool is my most used unit. It's strong enough to loosen/tighten axle nuts, swingarm nuts (they use a 15/16 socket if that gives you an idea) they're GREAT for pulling the flywheel nuts off (since you can't hold the flywheel by hand and loosen/tighten with a normal wrench) Impacts are great, you can apply a LOT of torque to whatever and still hold the workpiece in your free hand. Also works great on the crank nuts on these engines (you WILL have to use the impact to get it off though, the crank holding tool won't want to work too well for ya LOL. If you do get the impact, try using it on normal non-heli stuff to get used to it though, it WILL strip/break bolts if you are too aggressive with it.

Batteries. . .when I got my most recent ones. . . two 18V 3.0Ah for $120 on Amazon. . . got the charger for $35 shipped on E-bay, and charger charges them in about 20 minutes.

It will work, but you'll have to charge it more often. Those batteries have been out for awhile, they are 1500 mah vs 3000 for the larger ones.

well when i series my kong power batteries together to get 6s 2200mah, they last for multiple trips to the field. so i guess this battery should work. its only a 50 size and i dont do alot of flying with it. maybe 5 flights everytime

Charge life

I use the 1.5 AH Makita battery, fly 6-10 times a day, 3-4 days a week, and a charge lasts me about a month. I was going to buy the 3.0AH battery but just haven't found the need and the smaller battery is lighter.

Funny thing you guys mention the smaller battery. I needed a new cordless drill so I went online and bought a new Makita BDF452HWR. It came with two batteries, charger and a rebate form for a free 3rd battery.

Good to know the lighter 1.5A will work good on the starter too as it's much lighter.

Yes I too use the 1.5AH battery and it is awesome, very light.
I may not fly for a few days to a few weeks but that battery will still turn over my enging with out any trouble.
For those that do not know it is available for the K&S starter as well. There are no pictures on the site for the K&S but it is one of the selections in the drop down.

What kind of starter are you using nappy?? Mine is on a regular little hobbico 90 starter. It was really easy to put it on that one. . . when looking at the back of the starter, I removed the top acorn nut, then I put the little octagonal shaped standoff in it's place (don't overtighten the standoff or you'll cause a bind in the starter shaft. . .tighten as you spin the shaft to make sure you don't overtighten) Cut off the excess wire. . . the insulation with the raised portion is the positive wire, the smooth is the negative. . . crimp or solder the included clips onto the ends of the wire. . . as you are looking at the back of the adapter, with the curved end up. . .positive wire hooks up to the prong on the right. Connect the other wire, tuck wires under the adapter (you did trim to the correct length right?) the standoff will slide into the recess in the back of the top of the adapter, then you can tighten it down with the included allen head cap screw (use a 4mm hex wrench to tighten) Once you've gotten everything cinched down nicely (without putting a bind in your starter) carefully drill two little holes in the starter plastic guide using the bottom two holes in the adapter as a guide. Using a 2.5mm hex wrench, screw in the included small cap screws until snug.
