I want to say that it does fit the Sullivan Hi-Tork starter. Have a look at the Sullivan Hi-Tork set up at the Finer Edge site:

http://www.afineredgemfg.com/index_files/Page384.htm

If you are still unsure just fire them a call. The number is at this same link.

I seen this a while back in another forum and knew it was the answer,I have the Dynatron and had that stupid pack on it that holds 12 sub-c batteries, hated it from day one,it always seemed to be in the way but this new setup with the Makita battery is THE BEST,PERIOD!

for those that want to whine and cry about price -- ,who cares? keep what you have.
if my entire setup was to get ruined or stolen I would buy this whole thing all over again,it's that nice.

For those that don't have it but would like to,search ebay for the batteries (BL1830) and the charger (DC18RA) watch the auctions, don't buy the first ones you find, wait for a deal.
I never pay more than $60 for a battery(shipped) and also watch the sellers who list them as BL1830's then later in the details you find it's a battery with no writing on it(maybe no-name) because at least one of those guys sells batteries he doesn't even have.

Just completed a Finer Edge 180 setup with Robbe starter shaft. Took apart the 180 by accident. Not recommended! A real pain to get the brushes back in place!

Two Questions:
I like the custom starter shaft holders I've seen in some of the photos. Can someone tell me what parts they used to make them.

I tried the sullivan starter shaft with my sullivan starter but can't get it to sit on the shaft true. Is there a trick or is it cause my sullivan starter is about 6 years old?

thanks
Sim

Dynatron... PITA to tighten starter cup... ugh

any tricks for tightening the starter cup on the Dynatron so that it doesn't spin off when you're trying to starting your heli?

I know the nut on the end is held in place with Loctite when they come from the factory.

Just received the Makita adaptor for the Dynatron. Very well machined product.

How did you guys modify the integral nut from the Dynatron starter? I know I have to reverse it. Anyone have a picture of the final outlook from the front of the Dynatron? Thanks!!

Got hold of the 18V 3.0mAh battery. I did not buy the Makita charger as I wanted to use the hobby charger. Anyone has any pictures of customised charging lead connection? Need some ideas.

Can anyone with the Makita charger tell me the charging rate for the BL1830?

Thanks guys.

Custom charging of 18V battery

I think this topic was discussed some time ago.

It is recommended that the Makhita charger be used. It conditions the battery and ensures long life of the battery. The fast charger can charge the battery in under 1 hour. If you look at the battery you will notice the balancing connectors which will balance and condition the cells. If you charge using the main terminals you will lose this functionality. The slow charger is not expensive at all.

If you want to custom charge the battery using your own Lithium charger I would recommend that you set the charger to Lithium Ion settings and charge with a C rating of no more than 1.0 (3Amps in a hour). You can of course charge the battery at lower rate of say 0.5C.

I found the easiest way to get hold of the battery connector is to buy the cheap 18V torch and cannabalise the base to make a custom charge lead. Others have managed to get the part from Makhita directly. If you check the various toolshop websites they have part diagrams of the various tools and you can buy the relevant connector -it is a simple base plate with 2 prongs and 18V stamped on it.

I have done this myself but found that once you have the connector it was difficult to ensure that the connector stayed on the battery. You need some kind of mechanism to ensure it stays clipped to the battery latch. I ended up hacking of the entire base of a torch to ensure the battery clipped into place on the base using the latching mechanism (white tabs). I did this not to charge the battery but to use the battery as a custom power source for other hobby tasks such a powering a field box, fuel pumps, RC trucks etc and other situations where a reliable portable 18V supply was required. I found the batteries so you useful as they are not vulnerable to damage like the lithium polymer packs and less risk of catching fire if they were damaged, punctured or over discharged.

Hope this helps

Thank you for the heads up. I have neglected the balancing of the cells. Ofcourse the simplest solution is to get Makita charger.

I am thinking of investing in a new charger like the Hyperion 0610iDuo or similar ones, so that I can use the same charger for other batt like the NiCd, NiMh, A123 and Lipos instead.

Hmmm....(thinking)

You can oder the Makita battery connector from Makita for about $4.00. I did this to make my own starter adapter, before I ordered the Finer Edge Adapter.

Thank you everyone for chipping in for the charger predicament.

After much thinking, I have decided to get a new cordless drill set from Makita.

Damage $460.

After reversing the screw and shortening the threads, I decided to omit the acorn nuts because its too close to the aluminium wheel.

"Damage $460.00"

You must have bought a combo kit....

Guys go to CPOMakita dot com and you can get
a reconditioned tool drill or impact or whatever for 199.99
with cahrger and 2 -3ah batts

you cant buy a set of batteries and a charger for that price,
and you get a tool that you can use to boot!

The finer edge adaptor is a sweet peice,
however i made mine out of the flashlight bottom and mounted it on me dynatron
