So the best you can do is insult my creativeness? NIce that you can just buy a couple of packs and a couple of manufactured rubber holders that someone else thought of and had the cash to have manufactured.

It's great when people come up with home grown solutions. Often cost is a factor and we slap things together from whatever is available.

Finer Edge has a low cost adapter... it's a really well machined mount for the Makita battery. Finer Edge doesn't sell the batteries or the charger. They just give us an option if we want to go that route. I did it cause 1) I needed a new drill and 2) I wanted a slim, easy to maintain and unstoppable solution.

It's a done deal with me. I don't even think about starters anymore. It's always there, always ready to go and it's the biggest motor with the best and lightest battery solution.

I once invented the world's strongest acid.

Unfortunately, I didn't have anything to put it in....

wait, wait, I've got it!

I'll take some sort of electrical moving thingy, put a shaft on it, and connect some sort of portable rechargeable power supply, and use it to drive something else to get that thing going....

Where's MY royalties?

I may not be able to turn a kit into a plane, but I can turn a plane into a kit...

Has anyone sourced a cheap place to buy a battery and charger? I've looked on ebay and the only thing I could find was the battery for 60 shipped.
Also, can anyone post part numbers for the charger?

A lot of talk about the Battery, but what about the tools the Battery is for? I have had many Makita tools and been impressed with all of them. So I'm an easy sell. What is the opinion of the LXT tools? I know this is a Heli Forum but a small amount of Tool Talk might not hurt.

Scriber, the charger you need for the 18 volt battery is the
Makita DC18SC. I got mine on e-bay along with the battery for under $80 bucks...you have to shop around.
FYI...the battery only sells at Home Depot for $99 bucks!

I bought a couple of 18v batteries whilst waiting for delivery of the adaptor. Then needed the charger, so got one of those. Saw the price of the LXT drill, so bought one of those too.

The drill is a nicely balanced unit, 3 speed gearbox, and the usual bits and bobs. It has not had much use as yet, but seems a good buy. Always had Bosch tools before, but am impressed by the Makita.

I finally got mine together too. Nice, but a bit heavy and tail heavy when using a Dynatron. I need to weight it to see what it comes in at.

Nice, but it's a lot heavier than my Hobbico 90 starter with two, six cell car packs.

The battery isn't ridiculously heavy and the adapter is Delrin. It just so happens the Dynatron packs some weight.

This is my forever starter.

The battery isn't bad, it's just the all up weight that makes it heavy. The Dynatron is definitely the major contributor.

No starter is forever.

What tricks are used to shorten the gap (and eliminate it) between the adapter and the yellow end of the starter?

Different nuts/bolts?
Please be specific and use pictures if you have them!

Didn`t have any tricks or any problems when I did mine
I didn`t use any different nuts or bolts but did ditch one pair of the dome headed nuts that were orignally fitted.
Just remove the nuts from the cable end of the starter and pull the threaded rods out.
With a Dremell or similar then chop off and clean up the shorter threaded end of the bolt to leave a rod with a thread on end and a fixed built in nut the other.
Then put the rods in the other way around and reassemble using the supplied spacers and the ordinary nuts.
Should go back together fine other than making sure that you don`t trap any wires on reassembly.

I bought some 10-24 threaded rod and cut the rod to the proper length. Then I used red Loctite to secure the threaded rod to the couplers. Essentially, all I saved was not spacing it out the thickness of the integral nuts which was probably only a couple of mm. It probably wasn't worth the hassle. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine. I did cut my wires a bit shorter than the directions since that was the only way I could get them to fit.
