Would an onboard mixer work instead of mixng at the TX?

it definitely would because now the system's loop is closed. however i dread electronics and have absolutely no idea about going around to do one...

Certainly...

yes, but the simple mixing at the transmitter is something I prefer...
for all aspects.

Post mixing, as far as the gyro goes, it only
"sees" the net yaw variance it is countering via differential collective...so, with the slaved set-up, the gyro effectively
works just like a conventional...it is just controlling a servo
whose mechanical output is countering torque with a different
aerodynamic torque cancellation modality. (two symmetical rotors)

i agree. i've tried flying a coaxial without a gyro...and no matter how perfect both rotors can be, there will always be some unbalances caused by wind, interactions and so on and that's where a gyro would come in handy. not to forget there's inertia during yaw which will require a countering move to stop.

its probably how like those vietnam war pilots flew the old hueys without gyros...

There is a growing trend for onboard mixing now. If you look at the CSM web site you will see their Cylock mixer that offers significant advantages over TX mixing and would probably be suitable for gyro mixing on a coax.

thanks for the heads up. what would be needed is a module that can do all the functions of a few fully programmable mixers like the ones on the jr9x and the futaba 9c. something with at least a programmable 7 point curve is needed. currently that's like the holy grail. with that the gyro's output can be mixed onboard to slave the collective, and the other way around.

Futaba FX-40 and the Jung Coaxial

This radio has several functions that the 14 does not,

and I am using it for transmitter mixing, which is quite

simple, and exquisitely adjustable with all the utility

and power of programming one could want...

I fly with a tray, euro style, and prefer the large case

with relatively widespread sticks. My idle up and throttle

hold are stick-top switched. One less electronic

component to fail sans the airborne mixer, (just my

preferences).

I am using the emcotec mini 6 esp dual power supply

for receiver and ecu outputs, regulated at 5.9v.

Several have asked the price for the complete coaxial kit

with carbon canopy, landing gear, etc...

It is 4650 for the turbine kit, 640 for the trainer kit, and

185 for the carbon fiber servo trays, all in euros.

Wow, quite a big heli. The addition of the SPT5-H really does give an impression of the scale of this beast!

A bit of an off-the-wall question here but what kind of size are those skids? I'm asking as I have been looking for a set of skids to bolt onto my XLV-Jet to replace the Heath-Robinson arrangement which it uses stock and risks bending the baseplate on a heavy landing.

Thanks for posting your excellent pics, and my new ship flew perfectly
on it's maiden flight in germany.
Will send a video to you, and thanks for the help with the cobra, had
great fun at Jetpower.

For all,

I will be importing a very few of the 3 meter rotor span cobra fuselages to the usa, pm me if any interest.
Expensive.

best,

michael

Engineering and safety

We just completed an academic study at one of the top engineering university programs in germany, testing the rotor head strength, and the Jung
coaxial head exceeds a >>3 to 1 safety factor of dynamic to maximum
head loading. The destructive testing was just completed on 11/10/07.

Direct translation from Volker's University testing...

To maximize the safety of our Koaxialrotor-Modell helicopters, with 2.0-2.4 m rotor diameter to ensure we have at the Fachhochschule Wiesbaden, Department of Materials and component tests a tensile test according to DIN EN 10002 to be carried out. For Information: with a tensile test the component failure by fracture is subjected. The resulting forces using real time stress diagrams are recorded.
The aim was to break the resistance of the rotor head with its various components to be reviewed. This was the rotor head, consisting of central piece rotor, rotor blade holders and leaf (make M-Blade, S75) several different test. To determine Bauteilstreuungen were also testing with the same configuration on several occasions.
Finally, it can be said that the emerging model helicopter loads on the rotor head with a multiple security (>>3) are covered. The scattering component is negligible.
The pictures show the device. In detail clearly visible is the head with the rotor blade and rotor blade holder, and the strength on the screen recorded history.

Next subject...

KA-32 with 3.2 meter rotor span.
