human123, any update this build project. Do you have news on progress of the fuselage and landing gear. Last question, what is the difference between the KA-50 and KA-52. Which one is the projected fuse. Thanks.

Ka 50 is single seat and the KA52 is for pilot and weapons officer I think.

I have been following this thread from time to time and think that the Volker mechanics are simply awesome

I have a couple of questions that I think aren't too stupid to ask:-

What happens to the yaw control during a descent when the collective pitch goes negative? Does it effect the feel of the 'rudder' or is it compensated for in some way?

I have looked at the Volker web site and the mechanics seem to be priced at E4,650.00 - am I reading this correctly? If this is the case then from what I have seen of Micheal's build here, they are good value for the money - not that I can afford them at the moment

The Turbine Trainer version could well be the ultimate video heli. I imagine the payload lifting ability is very good and flight stability and control to be perfectly suited to AV work. Anyone heard of this heli being used for AV work?

Please keep the build posts coming Michael - it's a real treat for me to watch and dream

Thanks for the accolades, I shall relay them to Volker, as
I have done nothing but put together his excellent machine.

The relative collective differential control is unaffected by
any collective setting, and yaw authority is superior to
any tail rotor machine.

There is a uav morphing machine using this kit as it's basis, and
the lifting capability is formidable.

As I suspected - huge potential for a AV platform!

I am really interested in you getting this flying Michael. Any idea when this may happen or are you just going to sit back and enjoy the build - not that I can blame you if you do

One other question - is a 'tail' gyro used?

I have been watching all the videos on Volker's web site and both the G62 and JetCat machines seem to be showing signs of pitch instability in both hover and forward flight. I suppose this is to be expected as the heli does not have any flybars to stabilise the rotor discs. I am not suggesting it is a major issue for the scale flyer but it may benefit from a virtual flybar system such as the Mikado or CSM being fitted.

I also noticed that the vertical fin on the G62 machine was flapping due I suspect to that big gasser engine roaring away. The tail on the JetCat example is dead smooth - that says volumes to me

Well if you use a gyro then you're already over the line of "computer flying"... if you properly set up a cyclic-locked gyro-stabilized system you shouldn't even notice it, I mean, it should seem as though your heli just flies perfectly.

for example some of the REALLY big scale helis don't even have gyros! they don't need em!

My first four ships had no gyro...

dubro 505, schluter cobra, graupner 212, kavan ranger...(and they are all flying, with no gyros today....)


Volker's ship flys very well stock and the point of his design
is that the platform is so stable that no flybars or additional
gyros are needed...certainly with the mikado or csm software it will be even easier to pilot...

His design really is an extaordinary feat of machining and engineering, and the more time I spend with it, the more that is evidenced...he also is finishing an equally polished Kamax.

Tony Bettanini....

...is a better machinist than you or I...

At his company, BCM...


he manufactures super high end military components, and also does
oem parts for many high end rc heli manufacturers.


He did this yaw actuator bellcrank for me in no time flat, and
I just buttoned it up in the transmission case tonight...

No, just a fun project...

No failures in all the flying, of any of the components of the machines, ever. This does, however, give more yaw throw, for super aggressive flying.

i'm interested to know how he managed to hook up the gyro for the yaw axis. i did up a large scale coaxial helicopter myself and have flown it without a gyro. it flies fine except the yaw continues when the stick is centered because of the inertia. a gyro would help me solve that. however because of the coaxial system used(similiar to the one above), the collective is mixed to the rudder and the rudder is mixed to the collective in the TX. how a gyro can be hooked up is currently beyond me.

Gyro on Yaw Axis...

As this particular coax system seems to employ a dedicated differential pitch yaw mechanism, the gyro is easily connected straight to the servo responsible for that function. Collective pitch is changing pitch in equal (but opposite) directions on both rotor heads so it too is a separate function.

I'm expected to be corrected on this theory but I'm probably right. Mike?

actually it is not as simple as that. for the older kamov systems you'll see there's another set of mixing arms for the lower set of blades. for true differential pitch, you'll need to activate the inner sliding rod, whilst simultaneously increasing or decreasing the swashplate accordingly with a transmitter mix(rudder ---> collective). this is because the inner rod can only affect the top disc. this is for a true rudder to allow it to yaw without a loss of height.

for the later kamov heads with only one set of mixing arms(like the volker head and my design), there is another important mix which is crucial(collective---->rudder). this second mix is to overcome the fact that now there's only one set of mixing arms.
