I would agree virtually no one needs the nine channels unless they want a fuel mix or camera..smoke system, rocket launcer, sweetie bomber etc..

You are spot on in saying it is the extra programing functions that are lacking in the DX7...

BUT since all the current crop of mid range radios are 9ch anything less is going to look like a downgrade?

Possibly the most wanted radio would be a Spektromised 9x as people already enjoy it's feel, quality and functions and would be reasonably familiar with the software.

I have flown Futaba mostly for nearly 30 years..but the 9C lacks that quality feel the FF8 and 9Z had.. I would not consider the 12/14Mz value for money in the current market either

and search for FCC ID BRWDAMTX10

Take a look at the test setup pictures and page 9 of the test report. This is the same Tx module used in the DX7. Horizon has a modular certification for this module and will probably use it in other bodies like the 9303 used in the pictures during the certification testing that was performed in late 2005.

Exception to Rick's comments @ Heliproz

I will restate. I did talk to Rick at Heliproz and he told me that JR and Spektrum were doing a deal that should be done in a few weeks (I assumed that meant JR buying Spektrum). He also volunteered that they would be coming out w/ a 9 channel 9303 version in 6 months or so. That's what he said.

I've spent thousands of dollars w/ Heliproz just this year and I am surprised at his tone. This is a forum about learning, sharing topics, rumors, and just having fun! Sorry, Rick, if you have been offended.

It exists as a 9303, at least for 6 channels (for now ):

anyone thinking the dx9 or 9x2 2.4 won't happen is kidding themselves on. my money says it's out within the year.

i have a 9x2, dx6 and dx7. i wouldn't sell my 9x2 for the dx7 features wise but i would if they put the 2.4 into the 9x2 programming.

the hobby is waiting for 9ch radio and it will happen sooner rather than later.

cheers

Who says's people can't use 7 channels? I need throttle, 3 for cyclic, 2 ( rud/gyro), retracts, stabilization, and 2 more gyros Looks like 10 should do be fine. It's too bad, I have my 14mz, and dx7, and they each do a lot, but not enough.

Rhett... I can't fly, luckily the HC Profi Can!

Did you know the UK Dist is working with JR on the Distribution of the JR Radio with Spektrum Technology?

Look on the Macgregor.co.uk web site under newsletters.

Stevie Wonder could tell they're basically the same radio.

Now that's just messed up. The man is blind. I don't know if Stevie Wonder flies heli's or not, but what if he reads this thread?
Jeez, dood.

A DX9 really would be what I am waiting for. I bought a DX7 on release day at the LHS. I got rid of it almost as soon as I got it, because it is a JR radio. Nothing against JR, but I am a Futaba fanboy. It is what I learned on, what I use, and what I know.

I am waiting for a DSm version of a Futaba system. It would match my Orange fatty Futaba neck strap.

A DX9 might be what it will take to make me convert. Depends on what it will cost me.

MY OTHER THOUGHTS:

With everyone going to 2.4 ghz in the near future, wouldnt you say 72 mghz would be clearing up here?
DSM was the solution to interference,
But it's popularity may be making it beneficial for both worlds.

I am starting to think a 12z may be in my very near future.

DX9

We knew it would happen. I am waiting in line with everyone else for a 9303 version. A module would be even better... We can only hope.

It's easy. Just pretend it's the simulator...

In the short term, sure. In the long run, it will only make it easier for the FCC to sell off what we have left of our beloved 72 MHz band (and the other RC bands too). Remember that we are only squatters in our band and everything between our channels has already been sold off. There is a large commercial push to get us out of our bands for other forms of communication.

This may be the wrong thread to begin discussing this...

But

If the FCC suddenly took 72mhz away, that would make all existing 72mhz radio systems illegal for use. With tens of thousands out there in use, I just can't see it happening.

Has a similar event regarding a freq license in the past? when and what happened?

Frequency reallocation has definitely happened in the past. I would have to do some digging to find examples, but I know, for example, the US military has lost certain bands over the years.

This has been going on for years. I remember when radio gear was on 27 mhz for aircraft use, then we got 8 channels on 72 and then we got the current allocation but only if you had a narrow band TX. In the coming years I expect that we will lose more spectrum but that is one of the reasons that I'm an AMA member. Everytime this has happened, the AMA has fought for us. I expect that they will continue to do so.

I bought a DX6 when I had a TREX. My first concern was that 2.4ghz was already crowded and cluttered with garbage.

Cordless phones, WiFi Internet, baby monitors, and Now radios that we use to fly expensive model aircraft?

It seems to me that 2.4ghz is a free for all. Someone needs a frequency, they give them 2.4.
Could this ever be a problem?
