Tandem Rotor Helis Vertol Chinook > TH-2 Question - HELP!!!

Hi,

Has anyone using this mixer experienced a loss of servo output after hooking up a gyro on channel 4? Very strange thing, I programmed and installed the TH-2 and it worked fine without a gyro installed. I installed a test gyro (Century Piezo) on channel 4 after which the electronics except for the throttle servo (not mixed through the TH-2) stopped working. So to continue trouble shooting, I hooked the same gyro up to the elevator channel and it worked as advertised with no issues or conflicts. What would be the cause of this difference? Radio is a Futaba 9CHP set to SWH-1 with no additional mixes on. Power is supplied by a Fromeco 7.4v 4800mah pearless battery regulated to 5v powering the TH-2, the two sets of 3 servos, and the Rx through independent leads. I checked, and rechecked all servos to confirm correct hook up to the external boards utilized with the TH-2. I found a post on a different site that talked about different phasing of gyros, maybe but that dosen't seem to fit when it worked on the elevator channel? Anyway, a little disappointed I disconnected the gyro and test flew the bird, squirley but still together...whew. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated? I'm betting this is one of those things that a second set of eyes would find at a glance. Thanks.

Hi,

I had exactly the same thing, at the time I was using a GY240 on tail and PG-03 on elevator, I couldnt seem to get consistent results, that is I could put the GY240 or the PG-03 on their own on both channels and they would work, combine both together swapping over etc sometimes it would work others it wouldnt with exactly the same symptoms as you have. It went away when I swapped the PG-03 for a G190. It isnt a power issue as I am using a 5V - 5A BEC but also tried a seperate battery as you have, so between us that should be covered.

I wrote to Model Tech and they hadnt come across the problem, since installing the G190 I havent had any problems at all, I would give this a try.

heli_madken,

Thanks for the post, I changed the gyro to GY-401 and it worked so I'm convinced it has to do with the frames per second conflicting with the TH-2 signal reception/processing. The test gyros are not compatible (century piezo), at least in the configuration I used. I'm going to try the GY-240 x2 (ru and el) this weekend. They like the 401 in analog mode operate on 70 Fps which I think is the unwritten requirement for TH-2 compatability. Again, your post helped me to try something new, thanks.

Hi mchughk

I used 3 GY240 gyro's on my Mk1 Chinook mechanics when using the TH-2 mixer, 2 can be seen on the photo (elevator and yaw) and the 3rd (aileron) in the front. The Th-2 is compatable with GY401's but unless you have spare channels you can't switch them so there no point spending the extra cash.

When I first used the Th-2 about 15 months ago I tried several gyro's I had lying around and found the GY240's to be the best option, some makes don't interface with the mixer.

I'm hopping to try Joel's new Helitronix tandem mixer soon using the same gyro setup.
