HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Tail Belt Tension and the DTDS

What should the tension on my tail rotor belt be? (Sceadu 50, OS50, Curtis MP) I can't seem to find any references in the manual.

What is the expected life of the white nylon gears from the original kit (now packaged with the DTDS)? I need to scrounge my cash to pick up the new gear and bearing block, but still want to fly. I am getting a little white off the gears on the frame, but I only have about a gallon through this bird. The amount of white seems to be lessening, and the gears appear (visually) to be normal... Are there any alignment tweaks? How can I tell if the gear meshes are proper... They seem a little bit stiff... The manual doesn't have much to say... Thanks.

Well, I set mine so that when you squeeze the belt together, they barely touch. The other method that I have heard through the grapevine is to set it so that when you hold the main rotor, you can't turn the tail. So long as it isn't slipping, it should be fine. Word of caution though, you still need to check it prior to take-off. Temp changes affect the belts!

My Two Cents,

I use the same method to set the tension on my Sceadu as I do with my Freya. Use an allen wrench to pull the belt towards the center line of the chopper right behind the drive gear. With moderate force you should be able to reach the center. Much tighter and you'll have too much of a load durring autos, and Much looser and you run the risk of slipping a belt.
As far as the stock main gear goes. It will work fine IF -- and I repeat IF you use the third bearing support. Without the support the main shaft WILL flex inside the main frames and cause the gear mesh to distort and cause a total failure. The OS50 and Muscle pipe puts out SOO much power that the 3rd bearing support should be standard, and of course on the new kits it is.

I hope this helps
