HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Can a freya be stretched

Has anyone ever stretched a freya to accomodate larger blades?

I fly 680's on my Freyas all the time. I'm pretty sure
that Jeff @ Altech flies 700's. At 700, it is a BIG disk.

It shouldn't really be a problem if you do the math. If the blades
flap downward, they effectively shorten by a small amount
which clears. I suppose if you were really hellbent, you could
see if the GS long tail parts could be made to fit.

Be careful with 700's! I took out a set of 102 tail blades with them... It had over 25 flights before it happened, but I got it just right...errr wrong and it took off both tips of the tail blades and dinged up one main blade...Heli was fine, could barely tell it happened other than the wonderful sound. Use 97's and you'll be fine.

If you use a torque tube, you can make your own tube and put 720's if you want. One of the guys in our club has stretched his quite a bit, just can't find the bigger blades...

any heli can be stretched for longer blades , if it gots a belt drive then you'll need a torque tube setup , if it's already got a tube then a new tube is all ya need ..

I always stretched my booms alittle longer with the tube .. this way the tail will not be underload as much and requires less tail rotor pitch as oppose to the shorter boom .. the longer the blades the less pitch you'll need .. main and tail .. and lower rpm as well , and a cg adjustment accordingly ..

Dr. Scoles

Dr. Scoles,
What are the stock blue blades equivalent to. I would measure them, but me and my helicopter are several states away from each other at the moment.

Is the GS belt drive.

DavidH,
I know the head is larger than most. I would just like to put the larger blades on when I get the os 91.
How do you think your fly-in is going to be this year. I know a lot of us from atlanta are coming.

Thanks for the info guys

you should contact Jeff @ Altech regarding
the GS and longtail options. I'm pretty sure
the GS is a beltdrive but I dont know if that
is workable on the Freya.

As I recall, the stock tails are 95mm.

GS is a torque tube and stretches to accomodate 800mm blades. You can run 700's and 95mm tail blades in the stock freya config. Personally, I like the 680's over the 700's. Its a little snappier.

The answer is yes.... we have been flying 710mm blades on my Freya and My buddies for 6 months. Some of you will think we are crazy but let me tell you a Freya 91 with a modified muscle pipe and streched boom is absolutley awesome. The way we streched it was both ships had been converted to shaft drive. My first crash with the stock tube drive and my astonishment at the cost of a replacement tube ($40) I decided to make my own. I was able to purchase .203 stanless tubing for $9.95 for 36 inches. I then decided to make the tube 20mm longer. Which meant pulling the stock boom out of the frames further. So far we have experinced no ill effects from using the stock boom. This is not a hard mod but reguires some special equipment such as a lathe and a jig to drill the .076 holes in the tube.
