Turling,
Ive built both the XL and the Bergen both capable machines I too say wait, XL may come out with a CCPM gasser this yr and it would be the lightest one out there! Which would mean a better lifting ratio anyway.
Im waiting on them now myself as I too want a gasser but want the lightest mechs around. Vario didnt send me a kit to build and compare the other to so cant say anything about them here.

The Bergen is a well proven solid design with great handling characteristics and light weight. All CNC machined, interaction free mechanical mixing with all push-pull controls for super reliability. Not to mention great customer service and excellent parts availability.

Life's a journey, NOT a destination.

Search for the phrase
"great service and support" and see what you come up with. I have heard great things about Airfoil and MA but I could not be much happier with the performance, service and support from the great family of people at the Bergen compound.
Look at the new 26, or the Hanson mod that allegedly gets 4.2hp out of the 23. I am currently using the Hanson mod 23 in the observer and it does 99.6% of the things that I want it to do, and this includes hauling the VX series around.
I am sure that you will be hearing more feedback on the 26/observer platform shortly.

I would suggest calling/writting all three. A simple call will be most enlightening I can assure you.

2 words: Bergen Observer

If you really want to do aerial photography, the observer is GREAT.

I didn't think that it could be worth the extra money but I just saw one and wow. It is built nice, and that camera pod is nice.

Yes, you can't do shots toward the rear, but it has a nice camera pod with a nice movement system and the motion dampening is great. I would certainly look at it before you purchase anything else.

The one I saw was being used for a professional aerial phographer--- and he likes it as well.

John,
I just can’t stand it any more Why are you telling people that this engine is not safe, or will not last long. This is the biggest crock of BS I’ve ever seen….
You seem to say it during a possible sell….
Don’t you know, this engine has the same components and tolerances as any other of their engines…How about applications? The reason is for cars, they don’t depend on torque, they depend on high RPM”S.. They don’t use 1/10 the torque it was designed to deliver, hence there is no resistance on the internals to keep them smooth running at a higher RPM. .. …. Take your cameraship , remove the blades and go to half throttle…That’s about the same conditions a r/c Race car has to run…I don’t think your favorite engine would last long either…
There are plenty of these engines in service around the world on cameraships, not counting all who fly their Benzin’s as a hobby….No one is replacing parts every 6 hrs of running with these machines….They will LAST a life time, if operated correctly
These engines in helicopters will last a lot longer than a reg G series, because of the cooling system…I’ve seen on my own, 147 deg head temp in 95 deg weather….You want see that on any other helicopter made!!!
I don’t care what the “Empire” tells you about this, but I bet, that Zenoah would consider the application if it come to that…
Sorry if I blew your skirt up, but enough is enough.. I like what your doing with the 4 stroke…I knew it wouldn’t be to much longer before someone tried it on a heli..

Hey Bill

Contact Zenoah direct or Horizon.
They will both tell you the motor is not designed of constant engine rpms but bursts of power.

I spoke with Zenoah and was told this motor would definetly not be an engine for any type of aircraft or helicopter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John,
The next time you talk to Zenoah, ask them why? It can’t be just timing…. I’ve had the timing so high on engines, they could speak the English language.. Other after market modifiers don’t give this kind of warning.. I haven’t seen any paper work on this…All I know is what you said “they said”…. What is Zenoah doing that Hanson and others hasn’t done that say you cannot run it in helicopter? This is what I would like to know….
Metallurgy?
Vario list this engine in their catalog for their even bigger Scale models…I would think by now that if there was this problem, they would have been real concern about the liability. Sorry, I don’t buy it…Show me the paperwork
Regards,
Bill

John, I would be VERY suspect of ANYTHING Horizon says or has said. Their record, for good and correct information, speaks for itself!

I believe the post started as X-cell or Bergen. Which one are you?

(Quote) You know my opinion but what I would reccommend is to set tight if you are looking for a second ship.(end of quote)

(QUOTE) Hey Bill I know you havebeen around a while but if you think I post on here to generate sales you don't know me very well. I buy advertising in magazines for that, I post on here to show interesting things we are working on and try to promote and help in the aerial side of the industry.(end of quote)

If you want to help and promote as you say, Fine. However, arguing with a known expert in the field, doesn't help you or anyone.

As Bill said, I couldn't bite my tounge any longer.
