e-Electric General Discussion > Getting a Hornet CP... any tips?

Looks like I'll be getting a HornetCP package.. should arrive on Tuesday! This is going to be my setup:

Hornet CP kit

Autorotation upgrade

Berg5 receiver

4 HS50 servos

8-cell 720mah NiMH Sanyo pack

GY-240 gyro (will "lighten" - feel free to give me tips on how to do that)

Also got a Schweizer 300 body kit coming with it... will that increase the weight over the stock setup?

Going to use my Futaba 9C with it. This will be both my first electric and first CCPM ship.

The tips that I would like:

1) I would like to be able to do loops, rolls, etc, and especially be able to flip to an inverted state. Is this possible with a stock setup? What about doing it in relatively confied spaces?

2) What is the best way to take the casing off the GY240?

3) Any tips on setting up the CCPM part of things?

4) I hear the tail rotor is a bit difficult to setup on these things..any tips there?

5) I see lots people refering to how many grams their particular Hornet CP weighs... where can I get a cheap device for measuring its weight in grams?

Thanks a lot!

Also, what aftermarket mods do you guys recommend? I'm not a very mod-crazy guy but things people feel essential are what I'm interested in. What sort of flight times am I looking for?

Go to: http://www.hornet-heli.com/cgi-bin/...passCookie=true for all your answers. Choose the general discussion forum. It's a great information source and will provide lots of links to mod pages and Hornet help.

It's a 100% Hiller control system so you'll have to lighten the flybar paddles (Walt Ferrar's idea) to get legitimate cyclic response. It can fly inverted with the stock motor and an 8 cell pack, but it's a bit of a pig. You have to "toss" it to do a 1/2 roll. Don't keep it upside down for too long or you won't have enough power to "toss" it back upright. If you want the Hornet to come alive, get out the CC and order a Hacker 20-22s with a 10 tooth pinion, Phoenix-10 Speed Controller, and a 3-cell LiPoly 1020 MaH battery pack (requires special charger). Good luck. It is a fun but expensive little diversion.

Hello John,

You are quite famous! I've read all sorts of posts with people refering to your site, along with your page of tips from Walt.

I've gone over pretty much every little tip on Walt's page, as well as your 240 mod page and other stuff on your site allready. I've decided to wait until I get the Hornet built and flying before I go into the mods - mainly due to available cash.

Thanks for posting here!
