i chose plastixs for their quality rods and great service.they ship as soon as you order and it gets to you fast.and as a caveat if they are out of stock they will shoot you an email right away to ask what can they do,cancel or replace with other lengths. great people to do biz with.

I ordered 5 ejector pins on Wednesday night, UPS delivered them a couple of hours ago. Then again, Plastix is only 25 miles away, I could have driven there and got them if I had the time.

On first glance things looked good, it wasn't until I really started checking that I found the bad news. Of the 5 pins I have MAYBE three are usable, the amount of runout varies greatly. The worst of the lot have a runout of .010 or greater, the best about .008 at its worst point. Moving down the length of the pin I was able to find a usable section with a total runout of .003 across the length I need for a mainshaft. For comparison, I checked a new HDX V3 shaft and it measured .0035 runout, so the best ejector pin I have is only slightly straighter than one of Heli-Direct's V3 shafts.

For the ultimate test I locked the ejector pin down on the mill and put a non-carbide end mill to it, It didn't even leave a mark, so I'm inclined to believe that it's strong enough, I just wish it was a bit straighter so it won't be prone to wobble like the stock shafts. As soon as I get an appropriate size carbide drill bit, I'll finish the shaft and install it.

car thats odd ejector pins are hardened oversize and then finished ground for accuracy.in injection molding due to the stresses and tolerances involved they have to be near perfect.ppe will flash past a gap the thickness of a human hair.so far any shafts ive ordered are perfect.i made heliman 2 shafts that were dead straight and somewhere between here and vancouver the postal service somehow slightly bent them, but he has told me they are spinning up fine and vibration free.

I know, I was quite surprised when I started one rolling along the edge of my desk, and it wouldn't! That's when I took the lot of them downstairs and checked them in the lathe with a dial indicator, not a straight one in the batch. A couple of them are bent enough that you can see it when sighting down the length of the rod

I'll be calling them on Monday. I have to visit a customer that's close to where they're located, maybe I'll just drop by and see what they have to say.

I'm disappointed to say the least...

New set-up

Tried my new setup this morning, works pretty well

Basically, move the battery forward and put the gyro up front to get the weight more forward

If anything, I am very slightly nose heavy now, so I may put the h-fin and boom supports back on, although I really dont feel they offer anything (for my limited flying skills anyway)

I also made a new tail shaft from the 2mm e-rods. Even though I run the plastic tail, and have not had a problem, I figured its only a matter of time b4 that bends too!

Have a great weekend- finally, some decent weather here!

Looks good

Hey Aristo
Nice looking set-up

Do you thing the supports are adding much to strengthen the tail?

If they do, I may go back and add them.

The ones Ihad on mine, I made from training gear CF rods and aluminum tube ends, but if the the ones that HD sells are stronger, maybe I'll buy them

I picked up the SA yesterday, hardly had a chance todo anything but put the servos in yet

The 2mm tail rod is working well, thanks again for helping us all out!

HDX300 oh yea !!!

Hey guys, got the final parts for my HDX300 last friday. Esky HH gyro and CF blades. The final product is an HDX300 with V1 head, HDX brushless with 18 amp Pentium ESC, plastic tail but with the old style HB King shaft, blade holders and blades, no boom support, and 1350 Megapower batt. Flying weight is about 439 grams.

And now for the funny part, I'm using half of the Eflite 4n1, the receiver half and the Efite tx from my Blade CP. Yea, I have a DX6, but had to prove to the wife that this thing will fly before I go for another AR6000. Also, the main shaft is out of a CD rom drive, 3mm x 90mm. Used my dremel to make flats on the shaft and am using only 1 grub screw to hold the head on.

It took about 1/2 of a battery to get it tuned to fly great.. This thing is sooo smooth. Hover is about 90% throttle, so the head speed is pretty high, but this also makes the tail speed fast and responsive. I've flown 5 packs through it so far, and it's amazing. I love this thing. Now I have to go back and work on my HB King, to make it fly as good as the HDX300.

Well, just came in from flying the HDX300, was going really great right up until it hit the ground. I can tell you for a fact that the CD rom shaft WILL bend. Mine has about a 20 degree bend in it now. Guess I'll order a couple of ejector pins...

Plastixs

Hi
I received an e-mail order confirmation within minutes of placing the order, and then a shipping confirmation that afternoon.

The tracking number for UPS ground worked fine

In both cases, I received my order the day after I placed it, but I live only a couple of ststes away. So I would place an order in the AM, and receive it by the following afternoon in both cases

ok development.over in rcgroups thread gspam was doing heavy 3d today with his hadx300 said it was incredible flying ,until the 2mm tail sheared off.after talking to him on the phone he told me it sheared at the tailgrip shaft connection.i warned in the begining on rcg that due to the hardness they wont bend but could snap.do not make your flats very deep or all the way around, and if you plan on heavy 3d make a 3mm tail like mine.gspam is a smart fella im pretty sure he didnt cut to deep.the few tail plates i have left are promised out,but i plan to mill some more, but that takes time so if you want to try and make your own just ask and ill post pics of the bare plates and a list of everything i used.g said he was about 5-6 min into a hard session when it happened.

OK last pics. All lengths noted are from the ends of the ball links, not the centers. The swash to servo(HS55's) links, are trex balls links and rods from a standard trex link pack.all head links are HDX300.
