HD V4 Shafts

So what do you think the odds are of Heli Direct coming
out with version 4 of the shafts using these ejector
rods ---- they could sub out to a machine shop and maybe
save their dignity and credibility?

I'm not a fan of trying to drill through a hardened steel
shaft with my dremel tool if a supplier can do it?

Maybe we can put a bug in the ear of HD, and get what we need
to make the baby Trex fly

When I release my carbon-cored mainshafts, if you bend or break one, you will have destroyed your entire heli. Patience, Grasshopper!

HDX TX head

Hi Zak
I see your frustration.

All I can say is that once I had the TX head flying well, it is very nice

But everytime I have the smallest mishap, the shaft is toast

As an example, I was changing my pitch curve (with the heli powered up), and accidentally changed the model setting on my transmitter

The heli went full throttle for a second (never even left the ground) but the torque alone tweaked the shaft.

I try not to put anybody down, and so I will not comment on HD's responsiveness to this and other problems.

I do love the way it flies when all is well, but if I could do it all over again, I would spend my money elsewhere

The building experience was good for my learning, as well as correcting some of the problems.

BUT, there will be a TREX in my near future, and I am looking forward to it!

i have setup many helis even the hornet 2 with little problems but this head is a bitch. i have heard the original flybar on top older head is way more stable and easier. also where do you get the little c clips on the swash levers without buying the whole lever? off to try plastic blade head and see what happens

If I were going to get an over-slung flybar head, I'd go go for the MicroHeli head. Wait, I did! I'm flying three of them on different airframes. It's easy to set up, provided predictable performance, and replacement parts are readily available through multiple outlets.

Within a month or so, I'm going to put some of my carbon-cored shafts out for beta testing. PM me so I can get three or four testers lined up.

Hey Zac...don't rush getting rid of the V2 head. I believe John (Aristo1963) is having good luck with the hardened ejector rods with the V2 head. Follow the thread, then get the rods and I bet you will be all set.

Ejector rods

Hey guys
I have flown around the garage for the past two nights, and the ejector rods work GREAT

It was a real pain drilling a straig and centered hole (using a drill press, but it could be because I have not done this before. By the third try, I was able to get it right, without breaking a bit. Basically, you have to nip it to get the hole started, and then give it light even pressure until you are ALMOST all the way through.

I also adjusted my throttle curve so its smoother in the beginning, and switched from the 10T to 9T pinion.

I am going to make a spare rod during the next couple of days, because I think I can do a better job on the flat spots for the set screws

So far, I am very happy with the outcome.

I'll keep you posted

What bent the main shaft or the tail? If its the tail what are you using for the shaft?

SHAFT

Zac
I will send you a ejector rod shaft today

It's my first one (with a little vibe at the bottom), but give it a try

The only reason it vibrates is because I took the flats down a bit to much, but you might be able to center it better than I could.

EJECTOR RODS

Hey Zac

I send an ejector rod this morning. You should get it in a few days

Let me know how it works out.

Which tail are you running, the plastic or CNC set-up? I have the plastic set-up with the 40T gear on the main shaft, and it is working well.

I am ordering more ejector rods today, I may try the tail too.

Aristo, I think you had done these on the tail? I am pretty sure you said they were 2mm, but if you could let me know, that would be great

Tail Shaft

Hey Aristo1963
Sounds like a nice set-up!

You should probably start the 2X4 story with a "don't try this at home...". A heli that doubles as a table saw, cool!

Seriously, I have found this forum VERY helpful

Today I ordered a bunch of 3mm shafts, and one 2mm, just to try it out. I can not believe how fast those people at plastixs.com are, I placed the order at 3PM, and got a UPS delivery confirmation at 3:30 that it was shipping today!

Thanks again
Tony
