Is the gy240 a good choice for eco8 and a new pilot the eco will be my first heli. Other than toy 2ch I realize it can not be controlled by remote and I am ok with that. I just want a good hh gyro to get me started and be able to use on my next heli after I destroy this one learning. And has anyone setup a cheap eco with four channel mechanical mixer and car motor? I want to use 7cell nimh as I have intellipeak charger only does 7cell will upgrade EVERYTHING later just want the basics now learning on my own and expecting the worst.

everything fun cost money

240gy

The answer is yes, the Futaba Gy240 heading lock is a great choice. Right now Futaba is considered to be on top of the gyro game regardless of what some people might say. I have flown Futaba, JR, Align, and will soon try teh Logitec gyro. The 240 is recommended for up to a .30 sized heli but I have known people to fly them in up to a .60 size however these people were not what you would call 3-D fliers. Good Luck

The gy240 is a rate gyro and Not a heading hold (or heading lock). So it’s good for hovering and sport flying. for 3d you need a least a Gy401 (heading hold gyro).

p.s: Heading hold gyro can be used in either mode, rate or heading hold.

avcs heading hold?

This is the GY240 Gyro with SMM Technology from Futaba.
This is a High Performance, Compact and Lightweight
(AVCS) Angular Vector Control System gyro developed for model helicopters.
Because the sensor and control circuit are integrated, it is simple to install.
One Year Warranty

FEATURES: AVCS System: (Heading Hold) Since the rudder trim changes (caused by wind and other meteorological changes); the front, rear, and other heli attitudes change and are automatically cancelled; tail (rudder) operation is easy, making it perfect for 3D Flight. SMM Gyro Sensor: Use of this newly developed technology virtually eliminates rudder trim changes during flight (see COMMENTS). Integrated, compact and lightweight design made possible by high density mounting technology. Conductive Resin Case: This case improves EMC (Electrostatic and electromagnetic interference) resistance.

INCLUDES: One GY240 gyro One mini plastic adjustment screwdriver Three mounting pads One instruction sheet

Yup my mistake (I don't known why, always tought the gy240 was rate only)

the 240 don't have; remote gain and digital servo support.

also, the 240 operate at 70Hz and the 401 at 270Hz.

The 240 will work fine on the Eco. But, for 20 bucks more, the 401 works even better.

oops too late

I already ordered the 240 may of made a small mistake but being a newbie Ill never know the difference. Other than Remote gain and digital servo is the 401 worth cancelling my order Im sure you guys know how tough that can be. By the way I am setting up the eco as a trainer heli using 4ch and mechanical mixer anyway just to learn hover and forward flight. Will spend my childs college savings on another heli after I learn. I will have no help other than radds flight school training from online and fms simulator. but I have flown planes many years ago and have an emaxx truck now but it doesnt hover well.

With an HS81, the tail will be fine.

Why buy twice?

The 240 is a fine gyro, I've used one in my Eco8 and it held the tail just fine for general flying, but sooner or later you'll need to have a stronger tail setup and you'll get tired of adjusting the gain with a screwdriver; you'll want a 401. For another 20 clams you can get a much better gyro that supports digital servos and the resale value of the 401 is around 90% of it's new cost - you can't go wrong with that gyro.
