I was just thinking ..... what is the best way to operate the controls on a radio??? thumbs on top of the sticks??? !st finger/thumb???

What's the general opinion??

It's a personal choice. Both have positives and negatives.
So to answer what is best, whatever works best for you.

I am a video gamer from way back. The 2600 had sticks that were large enough to grasp, but the game controller very quickly evolved to one that only works with the thumb method. When I started flying last year I basically applied 20 years of practice to RC and used the thumbs-on-top approach.

Somewhere in there though, I switched back to using the "pinch." I don't recall making a conscious effort to do so, but it seems to be working out for me.

I also noticed that it's much more difficult to use my fingers if I don't have a neck strap holding the TX up.

Best way for me is a transmitter tray and pinch method. Love that tray. Just like sitting at a desk. Makes for very precise movements and total relaxation while flying.

My preference is thumbs with the sticks on the lightest tension possible. Many argue against this but my take is that just using thumbs means you have less finger joints to manipulate meaning you can have better stick dexterity and move them more quickly. Light tension allows for higher sensitivity and light contact while also helping to resolve the thumbers problem of them rolling off the sticks with lots of piro/stirring.

I use to do thumbs and first fingers but ended up having 4 back surgeries and to hold the tx now was hurting my back so bad couldn't enjoy flying and tried a tx tray and could never go back to holding the tx it is so much more comfortable with the tray. My hands relax able to move the stick alot smoother for me its working great.

Im one of the few who use thumbs and pinch, i pinch cyclic and thumb collective. PLus a strap of course.

I think that by far the best way is by 'devine intervention', I just think what I want the heli to do and it does it. This system does have its fans(understandably) but it is far from perfected at this time. So untill we have a viable beta version to progress this operating system, I use thumbs

Thumbs isn't considered by most to be the best technique for 3D but it does leave more fingers free for flipping switches, turning knobs and sliding sliders.

I thumb -- but I also fly lefty so WTF do I know.
