Got me an AXE CP tonight at the local Hobby Town.
Charged the batterie and went flying.
It flew straight out of the box - no adjustment at all required. Did 3 flights alrady this afternoon. Circles around the backyard and some nose in hovering.
Looks like the headspeed is a little low in the normal mode, but it flies fine.
Got to get me a 1320 Lipo. Might try my 2100 tomorrow.

I'm having trouble with HS also in normal mode. Without being able to adjust throttle vs pitch curves, at least with the xmitter supplied, I purposely put more negative pitch at mid-throttle in Idle Up mode in order to give me more HS at takeoff/hover speed in normal mode -- does that make sense?

Now though, if I switch to Idle UP I get a serious downthrust at mid-throttle, but my HS is about right now in normal mode. Maybe something has failed??? Flys great, just can't get the two modes to line up like the should/must.

AXE Cp pitch and throttle curves

I put a Spectrum DX7 into my stock AXE Cp, but I am having trouble setting up good pitch and throttle curves, mixing etc. If anyone has this same setup, would you be so kind as to share this information with me

Thanks

DX6 Pitch Curves

Wow - flying right of the box! That's just too cool!

I am still struggling to get back into a safe and stable condition for forward flight. I am now going to replace the 'see-saw' part and the short ball linkages (again - I seem to be causing excess wear when I pop them off to adjust the tracking - and getting the tracking dialed in is proving to be a pain).

I think my tracking and stability issues are being caused by some slop in the ball linkages. Fix soon I hope.

My DX6 Pitch and Throttle Curves look like this:

PLN = 40%
P2N = 65%
PHN = 90%

TLN = 0%
T2N = 65%
THN = 100%

This allows a decently high headspeed which has been helpful in learning the hover. The T2N can be dropped to improve flight time at the cost of some stability.

Been tweakin'

Update:

I've been getting slowly back into forward flight. This morning was dead calm and I did pretty good. Kept her flying in bounds and smoothly, without needing wild flares to stay put. Did some decent turns but kept her tail-in the whole time. I can't do nose-in yet, at all!

I tweaked the DX6's Normal Throttle Curve down by 2% and the Normal Pitch Curve up by 2%. Improvement! Landings and liftoffs very smooth now! No more training gear needed. All landings picture perfect.

Pretty stable all around, especially at maintaining a stead altitude. Could still be better though. Need more practice, more tweaking...

Markind,
Thanks for the info as you tweak in the curves, will come in handy when (not if) I changeover to 9C.

Mine is flying quite decent also, very stable. But dumb me, had to get out of the house and hover in the backyard a few days ago. So nice at 20-30 ft, so after 2 packs decided to do a peroette--it drifted enough forward (10ft) before I could stabilize and hit the roof of our shed, busted the rotors into 10 pieces, dented one servo link, no other apparent damage. Won't know for sure until I balance and install the new rotors--still in mourning...

I'm starting with the Axe Cp.
For a beginner the price and being RTF makes it a great deal.
After 4 or 5 good crashes I learning how to hover and also do repairs.
I think I'm ready to get the lipo batteries and charger cause 10 min.
dont cut it.
I had to replace the throttle control cause it burned out but because it was only 2 weeks old they replaced it for free at hobby people
So Im in fine tuning Hell but its slowly coming together.
From what I've gathered if you can fly an Axe Cp good you'll fly
like a freaken pro "LOL" when you step up to somethen better.

But so far I'm having a blast..

Congratulations for making it over 'the hump' so to speak. I kind of relate it to taming a wild horse (not stallion in this case). It feels really great when you can hover WHERE YOU WANT IT TO HOVER vs chasing it all over the place! Did you add flybar weights to calm it down? I did, huge difference. I really enjoy flying the Helimax in between the 30 and 50 size nitros I have, it's a great skills tuneup machine.

And yes, if you can fly it, you'll be fine with the bigger ones, no sweat. Just that the bigger ones fly so much faster, higher and farther away they're somewhat of a different perspective. I still find it hard to hover in all 4 orientations with the CP because of having to correct for the tail all the time, but it's definitely getting better.

awaiting my axecp

I hope that this was a good choice. This will be my first real heli (piccolo z don't count) and I ordered an extra set of mains but forgot the tail and fly bar weights. I am lucky that My LHS will have these. I should have ordered the g3 sim instead of the heli but I get bored with computer games REALLY quick, praying now that this won't cost me a month on the couch when the wife see's me crash the first time. I won't have any finger nails left by the time that it gets here.

You should really get time on a sim, maybe at your LHS for starters. I also hear there's a free one on the net, FMS I think, not great but better than noth'n. The Axe CP is a handful without sim training, even with the weights.

is arriving this abernachtmittag (only german that I remember) {afternoon}

After reading( and studying) the electronic helicopter beginners guide it has occured to me that I have made a good choice in buying the heli instead of the sim first. I will be looking for the patch cable to go from trainer plug to usb so that I can use FMS, however... I am the rare type that gains the wrong kind of confidence too early and if I spent a lot of time on the sim I would make some over-confidence mistakes and spend lots of money. I will be making a pretty mobile out of the crossbar training gear supplied to me and making a larger training set-up to both make the heli heavier and give me more room for error. My next question is, if the heli weighs 465g then how much weight will cause the engine to overload? I will use fiber rods from LHS or buy an extra set of the supplied type of rods and affix a centerpiece under the heli to tie the system together. the bible (ehbg) recommended using 1/4 inch or smaller wooden dowels and a small hoola hoop for a .50 or larger heli but I think that I can get the same effect with lighter materials. I will be doing the run-up, shipping inspect, parts inspect and general familiarization for the next two days or so(though I have to admit that this will be harder than waiting to get my date out of that prom dress). If there is a serious flaw in my thinking PLEASE let me know. I will check back here on a regular basis during the next few days. Thank you for putting up with my long-windedness, I will try to be brief in the future.
Wish me luck

according to helimax website, the axe uses a 120 degree composite swashplate. I hope that this helps.

I used 2 2-foot wooden arrows with styrofoam balls for my 'enhanced' training wheels when I started, the axe handled it fine. Now I just have the stock training wheels to land/takeoff in grass easier.

heavy handed

Hah!!,
I just found a length of oak quarter-round door moulding and made that into a training gear set-up( after a nose in accident landed my axe on the fence and broke the rear motor mount.) I hope that this will not cause too much stress on the blades and head assembly since it takes almost 3/4 left stick to get it off the ground. I only flew it for about two minutes before I noticed that the blades were not tracking, so I will await response while I re-adjust the tracking. Has anybody seen a homemade pitch guage or should I ask my LHS if I can borrow one from them. I realize that they are "in business" to make money but I think I can use the "could you show me how to do this?" excuse to get it done the first time. Last qustion for right now, how sensitive would you recommend I set my gyro gain as a beginner? I notice that it keeps drifting left and nosing right once it becomes light. Am I not trimming it correctly or do I need to reset gyro gain? I am trying to avoid touching the pots but I will if it works, I guess that I will have to get comfy adjuusting every thing. I am going to find a local flight club this weekend and start bugging them as well as bending the ear of those whom read this forum.
Thanks again guys you have helped a great deal.( Even being told that I could be a whack job.)

I'm flying the Thunder Power (TP) 11.1V, 3-cell 1320 mAh Li-Polymer (LiPo) batteries. They fit perfectly and I get 10 minutes + flying time. You'll probably need a LiPoly charger and a balancer too. I also fly a T-Rex and have 6 TP-2100's. They are good batteries, just keep them balanced.
P.S. You'll want top put Deans Ultra Connectors on your packs if you haven't already.
Here's a picture of my Axe - I fly it every day and love it.

Hey could you elaborate on how you set up your Futaba to work with the 3 in 1? Sounds like you didn't make any mods before using your comp radio. I have a Futaba T6EXHP and would like to give it a try before going with separates. Thanks.

After reading so much about having a good TX I bought a JR xp7202 with a RS6UL reciever. My questions are after the gyro and esc upgrade what else do I need to install the JR? And also what would be a good program setup to start with?
