I got the heli-max axe cp off the brown truck today. Not very much assembly required upon opening the box. I charged the battery pack while at work, and when I got home I installed the main blades and gave it a quick hover in my garage. Not to bad for such a small heli. I managed to run out the pack in my garage. It needs to have the control rods adjusted a bit, and the tail took me some gettin used to. The collective seems very powerful. I am not a very good flyer yet, but I like it for a $200 rtf. The mixing in the board for the eccpm is not perfect, but I think I can tweak it a bit also. The cyclics are a very soft around center stick, no adjustment for d/r or expo on the tx, seems to require alot of movement of the right stick to make it move, that could be due to the tight links also. I do like that I can get a quick flight in during my lunch break at work with this thing in the shop. I haven't ever flown a small electric heli before, and the smallest heli I have flown was a lite machines 110.

It's a good day for a guinness!!!

What do you mean the tail took some time getting used to? My Axe CP will be here Monday.

It is not like a tail driven off of the main gear where the blades change pitch. The axe cp uses fixed pitch tail blades, and are driven by a seperate motor, and the control of the tail feels slightly sluggish. For a $200 rtf it is pretty good. I like mine.

I part-time at a LHS, got a chance to look over a new axe on friday and compare it to its obvious competitor, the blade cp, and it looks to be a pretty good value.

pros:
way thick mainshaft
uprated ventalated stock tailmotor
much sturdier frame and landing gear
uses 400 class motor, yet is still fairly light
uses 9 cell nimh stock, so easy to upgrade to 3s lipo
metal large diam tailboom that clamps in trex style for easy repairs
swash is plastic, but really large and stiff
cheaper

cons
appears to be a hiller, not bell hiller linkage

I'm hoping they will sell a arf version without electronics, might be a really good flyer with a brushless and HH gyro

I wacked off one of my tail blades the other day, waiting for new ones to arrive. I ordered a few other extra parts while I was at it. I am going to try and set it up in my 9c to see if I can fine tune it a bit better than it is out of the box. It has no adjustments for anything but trim in the tx and the 3-in-1 board only adjusts tail control. The swash is not setup perfect and has some control interaction. I am not a good enough flyer to tell it when hovering, but on the bench it can be seen.

I picked up mine yesterday and went through one stock battery and then set it up in my Futaba 7CH and changed to FullyMaxx 860mah LiPos. Much better performance but the swash still needs some TLC (Tender Loving Care) and maybe a bit of aluminum for more precision.

Overall it is okay and I am sure there will be some good mods for the Axe. My next step is a brushless setup and a Futaba GY240.

A good day flying is when you don't have to fix anything at night.

I have some cnc grips on the way. I haven't set it up in my 9c yet but going to very soon. How did the setup go for you with your 7c?

Is anyone else having problems with tail glitches?

Its all stock, About half way though a battery the tail will stall and start up again. Sometimes for a couple seconds piroetting then I can regain control and land. Had a close call today. I can disconnect the main motor and run just the tail to hear it drop in and out. Replace tail motor maybe?

Troy,
I don't know either - I wrote a post myself about Tail problems or Gyro problems.
I am sorry as I don;t have a clue either and I wish that I could help. I also wish that someone could write up a setup procedure for gyro adjustments.
The advertisements say that this MAX has been factory flown (every one of them) before they are put in the container. Humm - well, I am sorry, but I have a hard time believing this. They may hover it for maybe two seconds just to see, but I don't think that anyone takes the Max CP thru its paces (each one of them) before they are sent out. The ad claims able to do 3-D right out of the box. SOmeone must have skipped mine.

I am waiting for the synthesized module for my 9c super, and then I will set the axe up on that. There is alot of interaction of the left cyclics, the servos throws are not the same left and right. The swash binds to the left and not to the right. Factory setup sucks.

I just ordered

Hi all I just ordered my AXE CP!

I have not heard anything bad about this model, so I pulled the trigger yesterday with Tower.

A few of my buddies all have Blade CP - so I just had to go the other way - that's just me

I do well with this on the sims and I am good with Blade CX2 but I am sure this will be a squirley challenge to hover.

I'm seeking any tips to help tame this model to and to ease my learning curve. I really don't wanna crash this thing at all. I'm willing to take it low and slow and build up skill gradually.

Thanks! I'll keep posting progress as it happens...

I like my axe cp alot now that it is programed into a good tx. The programming in the oe tx is terrible. The swash has to much interaction between collective and cyclic inputs. I set it up on my optic6 and it will almost hover itself. I could barely keep it in a 5ft area with the oe tx. If given the chance to I would have bought myself the mx400 pro instead of the axe. Well now I have both. It isn't a bad heli, just needs better programming in the tx for it to be flyable. I need to get the setup fine tuned still, but it is much better now.

tail motor ?

For you guys out there with the axe cp, when you spin your tail blade by hand, does it feel notchy from the meshing of the pinion gear. A friend has the cp pro and told me his mesh was smooth and would actually rotate when spun. Mine was notchy out of the box and I was curious if ti's the norm. I'm refering to the tail not the main
blades. Karl
