The more I think about it, this wasn't much of a low ball offer at all. It's a mostly bare ship that nobody is going crazy over to buy before Christmas, I'd say that any offers are better than none at all because you aren't obligated to accept a low offer if you choose not to

When push comes to shove, I've taken low offers before but never lashed out at somebody willing to at least make an offer of what they could afford. On the same token, I've turned down low offers as well but never made insulted someone over it.

ME:

Hey, I saw your posts on RR.... I was looking for one later next year, probably with the NEU setup not the Hacker one. Would you be willing to sell for $1000 shipped to California? Not sure if that's worth it for you.

HIM:

Sure, if you'd like me screw your sister and your mother for $25. Offended by that offer, are you?

You saw the price at $1150 + shipping, didn't you? Did you see me say "or best offer" or "obo" or "make me an offer" anywhere in the ad? You know that I'm losing a very significant amount of money selling the heli for $1150, don't you?

Yet you are rude enough to make me an even lower offer, you penny-pinching little prick.

Even more disturbing is this:

Quote
not that I feel an ounce of regret or embarrassment over what I said to him.

Bonkers,

You need to seek some help with Anger Management. That was just plain wrong.

A simple "no, but thanks for the offer" would have worked just fine.

Oh, and about being a "Private" email.

You're not going to believe this, but I expected Kris to turn right around and post our e-mail exchange on this forum. That aside

I agree that an offer is an offer. Take it or leave it. Don't be rude. Haggling is part of the process. It's not screwing, cheating, or being dishonest.

Good luck on your sale, but you are part of my ignore list.

WOW! Bonkers is extremely confused on any number of things. First of all, an offer is just that. Personally I am never frustrated or upset at low offers on my gear. I am sometimes dissappointed to find out what they're worth, but that's my problem.

But that's exactly what Kris was doing - establishing what the chopper is worth. "Intrinsic value" is a fallacy. What something will sell for is what it's worth. There's no simpler way to put it. There's nothing even remotely unethical, dishonest, or immoral about it.

As it happens I know Kris very well. He's not cheap, dishonest, or stupid. What he made you was a valid offer (even if not an interesting one to you). What you did was embarrass yourself - plain and simple. Now it's possible you're not smart enough to be embarrassed by this whole thing, but trust me when I say you should be.

That being said, I'm willing to bet you haven't recieved a single offer better than Kris's. And no I don't want to hear either way - I'm not likely to believe you. So tell me again about it's intrinsic value, and how that puts money in your pocket when the heli collects dust on your shelf.

Bonkers,

You should have taken the $1000 offer! That's a generous offer for a machine that is not very popular right now. Looking at the closed tail rotor gearbox and the old style gearbox clamp, it must have been sitting around for over a year.

In any event. Bonkers may not realize it, but I assure you the price of that heli is going down - not up.

Spork,
If you were to purchase a Mercedes for $60,000 and turn around and try to sell it one month later and with a mere 100 miles on it, you'd take a $5000 hit if not significantly more. If after one month and 100 miles you had no intention of selling it, however, the value of the car would still be $60,000 to you. That's the difference between intrinsic value and resale value.

Anyway, I'm not going to debate this issue any further.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Kris posted our e-mail exchange on this forum specifically because he knew there are a handful of people (like yourself) who'd attack me for it. Many of you are predictable, to be sure.

I would also like to point out to you that Kris himself was not offended by my remarks, as he chose to e-mail me yet again with another offer (presumably an attempt to taunt me).

Now, you may think I'm a jerk for making my comments to Kris, and to be honest, I couldn't possibly care less. Just be aware, however, that Kris bears some of the responsibility for this argument. He could have been a good boy and simply dropped the matter. Instead he chose to perpetuate it through TWO venues: by e-mail and in this forum.

dude you can't be serious if you expect anyone to buy anything from you with an attitude like that. how do we know its actually in new condition, or that you'll do a good job shipping it? He made a good offer, 10% off your asking price, you could have come back with a 5% offer and split the shipping if you actually wanted to move this heli. instead you acting da fool

That just plain cracks me up. If I buy a Mercedes for $60,000 I plan to get $80,000 value out of it, and then hope I can find someone to tow it away for a reasonable fee 15 years from now. Why the hell did you buy a heli, never even run electricity through it, and then decide you could sell it for a minimal loss? But even more importantly, why the hell do I care?

Kris and I talked after this whole exchange. I told him about a glider that I had for sale for $7000.00. I didn't get much action on the listing. The season was starting to heat up so I figured I'd hold onto it. Actually started looking forward to flying it. Then I got a "low-ball" offer on it. I thanked the guy for the offer, but told him I was inclined to keep it for $1.00 less than the asking price. Guess what he did... He gave me the asking price. And as far as I can recall, neither of us called the other a prick in public or private. Don't get me wrong. Your way is good too.

Sorry, the real difference is that one has meaning, while the other is meaningless. The value it has to you is just "the value". You're part of the market. You're effectively buying it from yourself at that price. In this case I think you'll find there's a big gap between you and the next bidder.

Anyway, I'm not going to debate this issue any further.

Unquestionably the most intelligent thing you've said so far. But, total B.S. You'll be getting another misguided jab in by morning.

1ton.....

You obviously haven't read Kris' initial post. Had you, you'd have known that my comments to him were made via e-mail in response to an e-mail he sent me. It was my intent for those comments to be for his eyes only. My remarks have no place in a forum like RunRyder (but as far as I'm concerned, and under the circumstances, are perfectly acceptable in an e-mail).

The little rat chose to post my e-mail on this forum and create the nasty argument that ensued.

Say what you want about my remarks to him. But the bottom line is that he's the one looking for trouble.

Hey - you have fun your way, and I'll have mine at Bonkers expense. I used to be a regular on this forum, but left partially over the fact that it's more of a pissing contest here than anything else. Now I just show up when I'm looking for a good pissing contest. I could hardly ask for better entertainment than our friend Bonkers offers. I should ask where to send the check!

My offer stands at $900.

Spork, I can assure you that nothing you do comes at my expense.

You're just some tool with nothing better to do than inject himself into a dispute that didn't involve him to begin with.

And as for you Kris, you created this argument. I basically told you to "go shove it" in my e-mail, and all you had to do was let it go. But you couldn't. Instead, you proceded to send me not one, but TWO more e-mails (both unsolicited), duplicate your second offer to me in this thread, and simultaneously post our initial exchange on this forum...thus creating the current argument.

In my initial e-mail to you, I didn't give you any indication that I was looking for a response from you. You could have dropped it right then and there.

You are little more than a child throwing a temper tantrum because someone said something to you that you felt was inappropriate.
