e-Lite Machines Corona > Replacement TR Gearbox?

Well I finally did it... I broke something!! Yep, building my Corona, getting ready to install the TR pushrod and I see the Gearbox has a crack in it. It appears I tightened the gearbox bolt too tight and now two days later it's cracked. It's interesting that the instructions say "When tight, the gearbox nut should dent the tail boom and keep the gearbox from turning". Wow... That's Tight! I never got it that tight.

Anyhow, nuff said about that. I did CA the crack, but from what I have heard here, that never really works too well. I'm going to call my LHS tomorrow where I bought the kit from and see if they have a gearbox. I did check LMH's web sight but when I try to pull up their price list it tilts, look up their dealers... it tilts. Chopper-1 is out of business now so that's a dead end.

Is there somewhere else that I might try to get the stock gearbox?

Still havin fun tho

tnx

I'm looking for one of those delrin tail gearboxes also but I did another fix for the stock gearbox that seems to be holding up really well. I cracked it but repaired it by cutting a piece of the transparent plastic from a two liter bottle to layer the box where it cracked. I sanded the side of the plastic to be glued to the box and CAed it on. It's held up for a long time now and I don't anticipate it breaking anytime soon. I also used some unwaxed floss and wrapped the box. Sealed it with CA again. This gearbox is strong!

That is a good idea, to overlay the crack. The crack on my gearbox is running parallel to the tail fin so there is little room for wrapping the floss idea, but I could overlay a piece of plastic on the top of the box to reenforce the cracked area. This could work, yes.

On further inspection I see it did "Dent" the boom as the instructions said I should when I tightened down the gearbox screw/nut. Musta been Too Tight... Oh Well, next time I'll know better.

tnx

Those damn gearboxes are a real pain. When I had my Corona they kept breaking all the time from just putting them on! the Coppper1 delrin job is the way to go if you can find one. Simply unbreakable. You might think about drilling some small holes on either side of the crack, crosshatch with kevlar thread and cover with JB weld. It works well with frame cracks so might work good for this situation as well.
