Sweet! Always wanted to make my own heli from scratch..
Don't mind the servos being withouit a washout, therby reversed from the normal trex "swash up for positive pitch"? How well does she fly? My hornets used to work that way (swash goes down when heli goes up)
Nice work
Have any more pics of the rotor on the complete heli shown above?

The head and tail are an aluminum walkera upgrade set from ebay ($50.00 shipped, couldn't resist.) It is basically a miniture version of a 3dmp head. The main gear is a left over from helis past. The middle is my design. Motor is an eflight 400 4200kv.
It flys very stable even with the cheapo gyro. mostly pattern, haven't inverted yet, mabye once it isn't as new and shiney.
Weather here has been lousy, only have about a dozen battery cycles on it. place where I indoor fly on Wednesdays has been closed for the last month, and the shop is a little tight to do anything but hover and circles. mostly been working on the 30/50 3 blade instead of flying in the rain.

How is the quality of the Walkera head?

after you take it apart, remachine a couple parts, file the ball liner, replace the flybar paddle grips, and replace all of the ball links. it's pretty good.

Sounds like a bit of work.

If you bling it, they will come :D

I aspire to do very similar work as you.

I have always been one to disassemble things make modifications to existing parts, swap in others that I feel will preform well for the intended application and assemble a custom version of my own design.

I have always tried to use preexisting components and only make modifications that can be repeated by others (or myself) if the outcome is desirable for the investment.

I am currently working on a project based on a modified Skyartec 200XE frame but stretched long enough to accommodate the 260mm blades for the Walkera 22e hopefully making it not only one of the largest 300 class electric helicopters (rotor diameter wise) but also one of the lightest (of a belt driven tail design)
