I dont know if they're on their way out, but they are no longer the best deal. With the T-Rex 450SA, for an extra $60... you get a vastly superior heli. Both are built for you (good for beginners), the t-rex has better parts availablity, the t-rex can do aerobatics and higher headspeeds better, and the t-rex 450sa includes aluminum parts, unlike the shogun.

that's not to say the shogun is bad, it just isn't worth what most retailers want for it, and the t-rex is.

--farrell f.

and while your at it... the 450S is even better. for $240, you get a carbon fiber frame, the align brushless motor, and the align 35A esc. totally worth it. i bough one last night, and will assemble it shortly. the only thing the SA has over it is that SA is essentially fully built...which can be a crucial factor for beginner and lazy intermediate pilots. the S is about 1/3 the way built...

I recall long ago ,,2 to 3 years ago when Shogun was Supreme by a small margin to the Trex. Lots of fights and me involved in supporting the Shogun. I had a V1,,with the crown gear tail. It worked fine if setup well. Parts for the Shogun were very high,,I was part of the force to try to get the parts price down. Many parts for the same type part were more than a Raptor Part!!!
They did have their chance,,I still love the heli but overall they Blew it in the marketplace. They made big Bucks for a short while ,,and the whole time Align was /AND Are doing research and Blew the Shogun Off the MAP!!! I see now that a Shogun which was so hot is going for less than the lowest priced Trex. It is a shame,,they had it all and if they were smart on pricing and had a better more aggresive R/D staff they maybe still in the Game. I do feel bad about it all....Their wallets and product were KING,,for a short while,,,,,no more. The Shogun will be deead soon I fear,,no one will even carry the parts when the kits don't sell....down the drain...

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

I've got 7 fully built guns now, another full heliup gun arrives in the fedx truck today. My son is learning to fly with a V1 setup.

All you guys can just keep selling your guns to me. LOL

I hope i don't get flamed on this. but seeing the trend, it would seem that Align is trying to raise its required minimum order to be shouldered by the LHS. small LHS can no longer afford it...and by the price of the TRex'es raising up same as its increasing popularity, the Shoguns remain a second (if not) a good alternative other than those cheaper clones...

Yes but parts where the F*K are the parts , I still like my shogun v2 it now has many Trex parts on it for strength availability and cost ,but im now down to my second last mast which isn't interchangeable so now she just sits on the shelf and comes out very rarely when I want to take some areal video footage ,(she has spy cam mount underneath). The rest of the time I fly my fully blinged Trex which is sad to say vastly superior. If the parts for the shogun where cheaper and more readily available I may have never got a Trex so all I can say is thanks shogun mob for making the choice easy . I F*K'n love my rex if you get the chance to try one its night and day,
For the first six months of Heli's for me it was all about the shogun but I spent more time trying to make it fly reliably and properly than I did learning to fly . When I got the rex two days later I was flying like a champ and it gave me many ideas about making my shogun fly well which it now does very well.
SAD RIP SHOGUN

I have four shoguns. They are terrible. I too bought three wrecked shoguns cheap, thinking that I will have all the parts I need. The shogun was my first heli which eventually made me quit flying helis because I would crash the shogun so many times because of the heli tail issues (which tail issue...take your pick). I spent way too much time fixing and not enough flying.
After a year went by, I bought a Swift which flys like a proper heli and now I am addicted and have six helis now altogether including the Shogun. Now that I can hover upside down, do funnels, etc. I figure "shy not try the Shogun again" So now I got it flying with more experience under my belt. What can I say about the Shogun now? Crap! Very slow ciclic and very slow tail movement. You have to be careful flying the stupid thing because the tail won't keep up.

Junk Junk even the V2 (at least the V2 does not have tail reliability problems, just not a fast enough tail)

fly once a day to keep the insanity away

I also want to add that when I was starting out about 1 year ago, I made 2 mistakes:

1) Purchased a Walkera 22e
2) Purchased a Shogun V2

The Walkera flew 5 minutes at most and just kept breaking microscopic parts. The Shogun actually flew decently. I didn't realize just how hard I was working to keep the Shogun flying well until purchased a TRex 450. Night and day difference on the controls ad agility! I even purchased a new 450x (with black frame) last December with motor and Esc for under $200, threw in the servos that were in the Shogun and I was in heli-heaven.

Buying a Shogun V2 for $99 and adding a motor & esc gets you to the same cost or more. For about $230 today you can buy a TRex SA with motor & ESC which will get you much more performance & better parts availability.

I bought a Trex 450 S carbon fiber frame + 35 amp esc and 430L motor for 250 bucks...this thing will do anything my nitro's and gasser will do. I loved the Shogun but it never grew up.

Awesome!!! Thanks, I appreciate the link!

I'd love to turn it into a UH-1, that being my favorite heli, but the raised tail I think would give me some issues.

Hell, I think I should concentrate on making the bird fly first!

I have a V2 and it seems to fly pretty well for my skill level. Seems to have plenty of power with a brushless and the foamy blades. I also have a set of carbon blades but they pull too many amps for me to use them. They seem to need a lot of speed plus a lot of pitch to make it get off the ground. Then the extra weight (I think they may be cheapo carbon where there is more binder than carbon) is killing it too. Good carbon blades built around a foam core might be really nice.

I also have some cheap woodies, but get a lot of vibration with them (even though I balanced them). Not to fond of the woodies so I'm going to stick with the foamies for now.

I still have my v1 with sparrow aluminum shaft upgrade and microheli's blue speed-up gear set. I have had it for over three years and is still in mint condition. Every 300 flights or so I have to replace the tail shaft input gear and the motor pinion due to normal wear and tear.

Just wanted to follow up here.

I've sinced picked up a MiniTitan, but this last weekend, I got my shogun flying sooooo well! Everything is spot on except for a little vibration. The EF gyro is working well, the tail is holding well in stock fashion, the headspeed is insane, and she flies like she's on rails.

She may take some time and effort, but the Shogun V2 is still a great bird.

I still have my v1 with aluminum tail shaft and microheli bevel gears.
It's been around for over 3 years with several hundred flights. It has been converted to a video cam heli last years. I still fly it every week. Extremely reliable if you don't strike its tail. I will post a picture of it when I have time.

It took just one shogun experience to turn me away. Im sure there have been improvements.. probably the tail belt addition... but I can remember when my tail rotor brushed against the carpet and the drive stripped.

Anyway the TRex is superior and if you can do without the TRex (align) name, you can get an even better deal on an SE or SE New V2. Check out the first link below. $189 for a great base to start with and just add your electronics.

I also have a Shogun and its the only heli i have ever flown.(apart from short hover on 450SEV2)

They take time and patience to set them up but once you are there they fly real nice.

In fact i prefere it to my friends 450SEV2 at the moment but then again I'm only just hovering and only just taken the training skids off LOL
I find it a bit intimidating!!

The ehirobo stuff is OK but be prepared to fix a load of problems associated with quality. There is a very good reson why the Trx series is so popular the quality of build in comparison to what else is out there is very high.

do plenty of research before buying the ehirobo stuff.

Cheers
