We've been dying to fly. If the wind and rain behave themselves, we'll be up for a bit.

weekday flying

It was nice up there today...

Later, I received a call from Jeff S, asking me who was there flying...
- although, I think he already knew...

He explained to me, that we are not allowed to fly adjacent to the planes. The area we've been flying, since they "moved" us.
We should only be flying at the heli field.

This was a new one to me ... I hadn't heard this before.

My question is, when I go up there for a lunch break during the week, and no other heli flyers are there ( this happens often during the week) how can I fly at the heli field?
You can't fly alone!

So that means, me or anyone who happens to come up on a weekday, and there aren't any other heli flyers, will have to share the plane runway.

Is everyone aware of this?

Gravity Works...no, the other left. ok,ok

Sharing the main runway with the airplane guys are acceptable. He just doesn't want anyone utilizing what was the hover area.

I flew on the main runway and Jeff came and joined me there and flew there.

if a fixed wing pilot is flying ,you can fly on the heli side "you are not alone" and vice versa

marc...
that's my point...Jeff advised we cannot fly on the heli side anymore...
by heli side, I mean the side we fly facing the mall...
NOT our new location

As far as I know if there is anyone else at the field (at either side), you are not considered "alone".
The only thing that brings us to the plane side is the channel board. If this issue is resolved, no heli guy would want to fly at the plane side. The present situation forces you to drive up to the plane side to get your channel card. then you drive to the heli side. you squeeze a flight or two then drive back up to the plane side to drop off the channel card and pick up your ID.
I personally think the next step is moving the channel board to the front. I bet if it was in our side of the field it would've been fixed by now.

Just do it.

That's where your wrong...
it was explained to me by Jeff...
that you are NOT allowed to fly alone at the NEW Heli field....
unless another heli flyer is with you...
even if there are plane flyers up at the plane field...

THIS IS MY ISSUE....

I know that the procedure will change once the board relocates. For the time being, I have to make the trip to the plane side. While picking up the pin, if the plane side is not saturated, I stay at the plane side.

If there is one or two guys, they are done with flying in 10-15min and practically no one flys back to back. When they come down, I go up.

He did complain that I flew over at the hover station and my heli crashed. It is true that there is not enough margin toward the pit and toward the road.

Since the buddy system is designed to help injured, if there is only one heli guy on heli side and one plane guy on plane side, it will most likely be too late for heart attack victims.

As far as I can recall...and please correct me if I'm wrong...
the ONLY injuries or accidents that have happened are:

i) getting their fingers caught in the blades of their planes

ii) planes fying to far off the regular pattern and/or planes that have flown away and crashed somewhere far off....

Can anyone tell me of a single heli accident or fly away?

Meanwhile, WE - the heli flyers - continue to make concessions for the plane flyers, for the issue of safety.
This is the arguement that is continually given back to us to make the following changes:

i) change their runway because it faces the sun
ii) change their runway because the wind blows the wrong direction
iii) Extend the runway because it's too short

does anyone see it differently?

So we now need 4 people to be at the field just to be able to fly in both sides.
Some people are fortunate, but some drive alone.
The field has two sides, but it's only one field. therefore, aren't two people good enough to satisfy the AMA rule or it's in the "bylaws".

Just do it.

Hi Guys!

Is anyone going to the field tommorrow? I know that the weather may not be to good early but if its good I would like to come up, as for what steve has said I believe that its all politics and you would think that this is a place for one to unwind and relax after a hard day or week of work! And Steve your right! the fixed wing pilots need more supervision than rotary pilots not that accidents don't happen to rotary pilots there just far and few compared to fixed wing, And if one has any serious physical ailments he or she should not go out alone under those conditions! They know who they are and should take extra precautions just in case. Anyway thats enough of that this is something that won't end at that IMO I think if you are healthy and practice good safety procedures while at the field you should be able to fly!
